We mostly enjoyed our last meal in NYC at Benjamin Steakhouse. The filet was prepared perfectly to medium rare, the shrimp in the cocktail were large and flavorful, the crab meat in the crab cocktail was delicious, and while a bit overdressed, the Caesar salad was tasty. On the less fabulous side, everything came out at once, for no apparent reason. Because we were at a two-top, there wasn't room for everything, so waitstaff - without asking - started scooping chilled Caesar salad onto our prewarmed dinner plates. Not great. Also, given that everything was coming out at once, no one in the kitchen thought to combine the shrimp and crab cocktails (but we helped them figure out that very basic kitchen technique). The "bread" basket was eclectic, and included chunky seeded breadsticks, soft Parker House-like rolls with black sea salt, and some seedy crackers. While they were all pretty good, it looked like a Costco medley, not an assortment from an expensive steakhouse. There was not nearly enough butter and a lot of (presumably) olive oil that really didn't go with the chunky breadsticks or the seedy crackers. From our vantage, not a lot of effort or thought was put into the bread basket. We felt rushed by the "attentive" staff. In other words, shortly after being served, staff didn't appear to be attending to our needs as customers, but rather looking to clear our table. Given the many empty tables (it's a large restaurant), I don't believe they were trying to get us out and the next table seated. Likewise, we came in at 7:30, so we weren't exactly shutting the kitchen down. Having worked in and been around the restaurant and food service universe for much of the past 20-plus years, this was officious behavior meant to feel like elegant service. It was, instead, a bit annoying. Despite the weird service and some odd elements (bread basket, food all being served at once, salad scooped on a warmed dinner plate, overly present staff), the food was good.

We had to wait 30 minutes for our table. Once ready, the table was set for a party of 6 - wait staff didn’t seem to care or notice about the extra settings. Even though 30 mins late, no extra care was given to us and the table was at the top of the stairs at a busy intersection for wait staff. Was like eating at Applebees in time square.

My friend and I had dinner here for the first time last week We felt like we were eating in a food hall. It's very loud, super expensive and there is no variety in portion size which are much too large so if you don't want to share with somebody you're going to waste a lot of food if you're a tourist and can't take leftovers home. Our steaks were delicious which is obviously a plus but for the reasons stated above I would never go back
