The Blue Heron Steakhouse is located in the thriving historic Jefferson Street corridor. We offer an excellent menu with steakhouse classics and modern Southern fare with specialties such as fresh oysters, the finest cuts of beef, shrimp and grits and more. Our restaurant started as a hand-crafted cocktail bar and consumer demand made it obvious that we needed to expand to a full-service kitchen. The Blue Heron is situated in a renovated home with exposed brick, a beautiful, locally crafted chandelier, a roaring two-sided fireplace in the colder months. Locally owned and loaded with character, The Blue Heron is a perfect setting for an intimate date, an evening with friends or simply a casual dinner while watching the game.

The food and overall experience were absolutely amazing! Tom, our waiter, went above and beyond to make the evening memorable. He was not only funny and engaging but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, including the specials. His attentiveness and warm personality truly elevated the experience. A huge thank you to him for making this birthday celebration so special!

Afer reading all the good reviews, we were a little disappointed. We were there on a busy Saturday night. The drinks from the bar and the appetizers (crab cake special and shrimp cocktail) were very good. However, our entrees were disappointing. I had the filet with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. The filet was just a little undercooked but acceptable and the spinach was good. I enjoyed the house steaksauce. The mashed potatoes were a very rustic mash with large pieces of potato (skin on) and little creaminess. They were closer to smashed potatoes. I would have ordered something different had I known. I had asked my server to describe them, but they still weren't what I expected. My husband, who was celebrating his birthday (no mention other than the hostess asking), was disappointed in his meal. He ordered the cowboy ribeye - cooked medium, green beans, and broccoli with garlic butter. His steak was too under for him, closer to medium-rare, and very fatty. The green beans were very al dente which he also disliked. He also thought the broccoli was underseasoned and undercooked. Had our sever come back to check on us again after dropping off our meals, these issues would have been brought to their attention. He didn't even inquire as to why so much food was left on my husband's plate when the dishes were removed or if we enjoyed the food. My husband didn't want dessert. He just wanted to leave. Our $233.20 bill had a $7 added service fee added to use a credit card. Had I know this ahead of time, I would have brought cash to pay. For the price, we both feel as if there are better local steakhouses. Perhaps it was an off night, but we probably will not return.

Wonderful place to have a romantic diner or a fun time with family and friends. The crab cake appetizer is amazing, filled with crab instead of all fillers. The steaks are excellent, juicy and tender and I love their chicken with gravy, an indulgence worth the while. The staff is excellent, from the time to step up to the host, the waitress and the bartender Alysa…perfection. Obviously the staff in the kitchen has their act together, they have the ability to create specialties that all can enjoy. Job well done Blue Heron!

My fiancé and I came here for our first time last night for a date night and were very impressed. I believe Wes was our server, and he had an excellent presence and demeanor tableside. My partner got the Strip and I chose the Lamb Porterhouses, both of which were stunning. The cocktails were a bit stiff, but with a nice complimentary flavor to our entrees. The interior was intimate and welcoming, and the ambience was just right. Overall, we had an awesome time. Thanks so much!

Went here for date night. Best crab cake I’ve ever had. I’m a picky eater so I ordered the fried chicken and it was delicious. The outside was crunchy (just the way I like it) while the inside was tender and juicy. The lighting was a little too dark for my liking but over all a wonderful experience. The service was incredible and the cocktails hit the spot. We also shared the chocolate mousse for dessert which was amazing. We will go back again.

Blue Heron is Lexington’s hidden gem. People think Ruby’s and Tony’s are the best, but they should try Blue Heron. The rustic intimate setting is a plus. The filet and red fish entrees were superb. Our waiter, Daryl took excellent care of us.

We were celebrating two birthdays and it didn’t disappoint. The food and service was superb. The wedge salad had great blue cheese dressing and bacon. The Tomahawk Ribeye was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The blackened red fish was the best fish dish I have ever eaten. The creamed spinach has just the right amount of cheese to make it very flavorful. Now to the dessert, the carrot cake was very good, but the apple crisp was my favorite of the two.
