Café Berlin has been serving authentic German cuisine on Capitol Hill since 1985. It occupies the ground floor of three townhouses whose front yards serve as Biergarten for outdoor dining. The interior features a small bar and two cozy dining rooms. The restaurant is located within a short walking distance of Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. It draws politicians, congressional staffer, and tourists as well a loyal following of neighborhood residents. The traditional dishes are authentically prepared with lighter touch by chefs with extensive experience in German cuisine. In addition to the regular menu, the restaurant offer seasonally changing menus that feature fresh asparagus in the spring, salads and light fares in the summer, Bavarian dishes during Oktoberfest in the fall, and wild game in the winter. Desserts which are freshly made in-house include apple strudel, black forest cake, and luscious cream tortes. The bar offers a selection of imported German beers and wines.

    Delighted to return to Cafe Berlin for a birthday dinner. Wonderful carrot soup - distinctive and delicious. Sauerbraten was well prepared. Chocolate cake a tasty finish along with excellent coffee and a cappuccino. The service was excellent, friendly and informative. Quiet at 5.15 but louder with families by 6.15.

    Too dang loud. Filled with overweight screechy 20somethings swilling beer from oversized mugs, thinking they’re getting the “Bavarian experience.”The apple strudel you wait 35 minutes to bake is bland with the worst ice cream I’ve ever had. Service is meh.

    I’m a huge fan of Cafe Berlin even though I only go on occasion. I always seem to get the same thing the two beer pretzels with mustards & beer cheese and the Wurstfeast which is a collection of various German sausages cooked to perfection with two sides. It’s quite a bit of food & if I had had a late previous meal could DEFINITELY do without the appetizer. Highly recommended!

    I was trying to bring back memories and taste of iconic German food from my college time in West Germany Overall experience was disaster.     We’ve been to Cafe Berlin several times now over a year or so. The food is always good and we love dining in the front garden. Service can be slow either from backups in the kitchen or drink service.
