Wait staff should dress more professionally... not jeans and t-shirts

Food quality and service were poor. I read mixed reviews so I should have figured out it might not have been worth trying.

I came here for the lamb chop here with my girlfriend, Service was great until the waiter began to belittle us for sharing a salad and wine, I received a lamb chop full of fat covered in oils that ruined my appetite. I came here for the name and the dish, they should rename this restaurant cafe Barcelona instead of Madrid for the dissatisfaction they display week in and week out.

6 of us went to Cafe Madrid for my birthday celebration! It was great! I had pre-ordered a mixed paella for 2 that we could have as our "appetizer". It was way more than enough and absolutely delicious! We all had entrees - the chilean sea bass was the most popular. What made the evening special was our server, Kat. She was excellent - personable, funny, honest in her recommendations, quick to make sure we got what we needed in a timely manner but let us celebrate the occasion without rushing. She went the extra mile for us. I believe a top-notch server elevates a restaurant and a bad server will bring a restaurant down no matter how good the food is. Fortunately, the food and the service was great and we will be going back. I also appreciate that Cafe Madrid isn't a loud restaurant. The ambiance was perfect.

Not the upscale experience we hoped for, w/ service being quite disappointing. This was the first time my family had been here. Our server was actually the one that greeted us as we walked in & sat us at our table. We felt awkward to be asked what drinks we wanted to have started before we'd gotten to our table. We weren't shown a wine menu, or asked if we'd been there before. Just felt rushed- in fact, we never felt comfortable here. It was a Monday nt- perhaps the worst night to dine here? Only 1 table & 1 booth seated in the dining room when we sat down (we had made reservations for their 1st hr of the evening, hoping it would be less packed) & yet, the 4 of us were seated right against the 1 booth filled with 4 other diners! (at no point did this ever make sense). We were immediately given our food menus & our server just stood there while we looked at them. He didn't ask if we had any ?'s, offer any advice/specials, etc, and when we did ask for clarification on the chicken soup, he told us it was "just chicken soup-noodles, chicken and vegetables"! Then he still stood there! We decided that w/ our teens being very non-committed, we would do tapas as a family. However, they were out of the first 3 tapas we ordered! No apologies. We were just told that it had been a very busy weekend as if we were the ones that should be accommodating. Feeling stressed, by our server, my husband said, "just pick something!" to all of us, when we weren't prepared to have a list of alternative choices for what we did want. Ironically, this server never appeared again other than to ask my kids if they wanted their completely empty lemonades refilled, & if we wanted dessert (while my husband and I were still picking at our food). None of us wanted to stay-not even my 18 y/o whose favorite meal is dessert! The 1 positive? The guy that brought our food out, bread, & waters (no-not the server) actually smiled at us, & apologized for being out of the 4th thing we tried to order...
