Street parking in our neighborhood. There is a school between Cedar to the south, Bayaud to the west, Washington to the east, and Pearl to the west. Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Carmine's On Penn offers a charming "Italian family dining experience" with large portions and a welcoming atmosphere. While praised for "delicious" food like chicken piccata and chicken parmigiana, the restaurant has faced criticism for "inconsistent service" and "pricing miscommunications," especially during Restaurant Week. Many patrons appreciate the "friendly staff" and the "classic Italian vibe."

I dined at 7 restaurants this week. When I got my reservation at Carmine on the Penn, it clearly said $35/person. When I get there, having paid for an Uber, I was told that they serve family style and my cost would be $70 (twice as much) and that I could choose only 1 entree-although I was paying twice as much. I explained this to the waitress and showed her my printed reservation and menu sheet with the $35 price. She talked to her manager. This was not altered in any way. This is NOT truth in advertising and although the food was excellent and the service was great, I do not feel that the advertising was honest. Beware of the ethics at this restaurant!

Dear Roxanne: We sincerely apologize that you feel we were being dishonest and unethical with customers during Denver Restaurant Week. We have always prepared food to share since our inception 31 years ago. We have also participated in Restaurant Week every year that it has been offered. The cost was $35pp for three courses or $70 for two. We provided FULL size portions of everything that guests' ordered (entrees the serve four people vs. for two or single portions offering ample leftovers.) Thank you for joining us. We regret that you were disappointed/CR for Carmine's

Another wonderful experience at Carmine’s on the Penn. After 30+ years they still know how to do it right.

The restaurant week menu was different than the one online. And it was for two people for $70. The food was good but we asked for bruschetta as well and our waiter told us. No he also denied my friends wine choice and told her to order something else.

Excellent food and great service, although tables too packed and butcher paper for table ‘cloth’ is hardly elegant. Key issue was that their ad for Restaurant Week wasn’t fairly written, nor honored. ie we were not allowed to pay that price per person, to choose from the entrees offered. They required that we both either share the one (and the same) entree choice (wife is vegetarian and husband is not) or we had to buy an extra entree ‘to go’ (all are double portions). They should have plainly said so in that ad, ie its price was not actually per person as written (like other restaurants’), since we two diners had to pay extra for an extra entree, just to enjoy two different entrees as usual for many dining couples (and then take away a lot of extra surplus).

When we went, it was Resturant Week, so I only checked their menu from RW's website. I never went to their direct website, my mistake. I didn't realize it's family style. So go with friends who have the same diaretary restrictions as you or friends who you know will like the same foods as you. My friend and I like the same stuff, so it was okay but it through us for a loop since we didn't know beforehand. The food for me is a 4 out of 10. I wanted to like it more than I did. Honestly, their bread is amazing! 10/10. Ceasar salad was sour like vinegar and overpowering for me. Pasta was undercooked. We had the clam sauce pasta and it was nice but could have used more sauce or something. Do not order their triple chocolate cake. Huge disappointment as a chocolate lover. The texture was the only redeeming quality. It tasted like fake chocolate or coco power that is used as a decorative topping. I was expecting rich dark chocolate flavor and it missed it completely. They had 2 chocolate covered strawberries that were delicious.
