Best Contemporary American Restaurants in Serra Mesa

The service was the standout! Our waitress was very professional and prompt and the food was delivered very quickly and just as ordered. They were very good with noting food allergies. The food was very good but nothing exceptional. Definitely a good breakfast place for sure, just don’t expect to be blown away. The chilaquiles were very tasty but the avocado was hard as a rock and the chorizo was hardly noticeable. The salsas and chips and egg and sauce were delicious though. The French toast logs are massive and easily enough for two people. The dining room is super pretty with a very chill and relaxed but also kind of resort feel. Very quiet when we were in for a weekday breakfast which was nice. Small parking lot on site and plenty of street parking nearby.

I always love NM for a ladies' lunch. Service is impeccable. The warm broth and poppers we are welcomed with make a wonderful introduction to the restaurant. The ambiance is bland and the food menu somewhat limited. This has been a favorite of mine for many years.

Our experience at Covewood was good, would’ve been great if we had a different server. He was polite, but the manager and the gentlemen who I’m assuming was the busser checked on us more than our server did. I was not happy with the mojito I ordered, so I asked the “busser” if I could swap for a different drink. He said no problem, and our server brought out the replacement. There was no apology, no checking on what was wrong with it. When we left, the server pretty much just took our money and walked away. No “thank you for coming in” or “have a great night”. Service from the manager and “busser” was fantastic, but service from our server (pretty sure his name was Stephen) was less than average. Tried several times to call and talk to a manager but every time it went to their answering machine.

Beautiful atmosphere! Open air feel. Service was wonderful! If you’re choosing between the Fish tacos and the BLTA, get the BLTA. The Tacos are OK, but the Fish was nearly invisible.

Carolers were singing. They would move to different locations so all could hear them. They added a nice touch to the prime rib dinner buffet experience. We really liked the buffet style as well. Our server, Ana was amazing as always!
