- RRonnieNewcastle and Northumberland •1 review5.0Dined 6 days agoEasily the best dining experience in Newcastle. This is a gem of a place which is a must for dining. There is a set menu for those on a budget which is outstanding quality and choice. Or if you are in the mood for more the a la carte is a great option. The selection of dishes are seasonally based and cater for all diets - you will not be disappointed. Service and ambience are a delight and as soon as you walk in you are made to feel welcome and important. We are not from Newcastle but every time we visit (this is now our third dining experience) we make a point of going here and will definitely return.More infoBlackfriars RestaurantPrice: Expensive• British• Newcastle upon Tyne•4.6

- RRohanNewcastle and Northumberland •2 reviews4.0Dined on Dec 28, 2024Nestled in a secluded area near Barnard Castle, this restaurant offered a dining experience that was almost flawless. The menu boasts a variety of dishes, and our choices for the evening were both diverse and delightful. The steak frites was an undeniable highlight—cooked to perfection with a crispy, golden portion of fries that complemented the tender, flavorful steak beautifully. Each bite was a testament to the chef’s expertise. Equally impressive was the chicken parmo, which came with a perfectly breaded coating and a rich, cheesy topping. It was indulgent, comforting, and utterly satisfying. The focaccia bread was a lovely nibble—warm, fragrant, and with just the right balance of crusty exterior and soft, airy interior. It added a rustic charm to the meal and was excellent for dipping into the accompanied red pepper hummus. The service was another highlight of the evening. The staff were attentive, friendly, and seemed genuinely passionate about ensuring we had a memorable experience. From thoughtful recommendations to impeccable timing, they added a personal touch that elevated the meal. Unfortunately, the dessert left us slightly underwhelmed. The pineapple tart, while visually stunning, was overly tart and carried a surprising hint of spice that felt too overpowering for our tastes. While creative, it lacked the balance we were hoping for in a sweet finale. Overall, this restaurant impressed us with its savory dishes and exceptional service, but the dessert could use some refinement to match the excellence of the earlier courses. A strong 4/5, and we would happily return for another meal—just maybe not for the pineapple tart.More infoRuna FarmPrice: Expensive• English• Barnard Castle•4.3
