- AAbbiePittsburgh / Western PA •1 review5.0Dined 3 days agoWe went to OTARU for my husband’s birthday and it did not disappoint. We ordered two appetizers: jalepeno yellowtail and the chicken gyoza. Both very delicious! My husband ordered a variety of nigiri and I order the OTARU course. All of the fish was fresh, served quickly, and was explained in detail as it arrived to our table. Our server, Angela, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, gave great suggestions about our meal, and very personable. The view was lovely and overall the service was wonderful. We will definitely be back to visit again!More infoOTARUPrice: Very Expensive• Creative Japanese• Mt. Washington•4.8
- SStaceyVIPPittsburgh / Western PA •31 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoThe restaurant is very small, cozy, and warm. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The food took a little longer than typical sushi restaurants but it's because everything is being painstakingly made by hand just down the bar. The drink menu is incredible and even the mocktails were delicious. The fish is extraordinarily fresh and perfectly prepared . I'd highly recommend. Just give yourself a little extra time to have a relaxing dining experience.More infoGi-JinPrice: Very Expensive• Japanese• Downtown•4.8

- BBrookePittsburgh / Western PA •36 reviews5.0Dined on Jan 13, 2025It was my husband’s 50th birthday on Monday. I am planning a huge party for him Saturday and didn’t even think about his actual birth day, so when he said ‘um, dinner?’ I said pick anywhere (because I plan epic parties and everything else takes a backseat) and Nakama was the pick. Our family of four (two teens) haven’t been here since before the pandemic, and upon entry we noticed they had made huge changes to the interior - open and updated. We later learned they were starting the remodel when covid hit, so it worked out they had all of that time. As we were sat (with the new open concept) we saw that the restaurant was utterly empty. The lone table was leaving when we arrived, and during our stay four people total were in the bar area. The greeter and our server were friendly, and our poor chef had ZERO to work off of conversationally. It was just us. We live together. We aren’t terribly interesting. Yet, he was plucking strings of convo out of thin air and it truly was appreciated. The only complaint was that my son and I drink tea, and they have none. How is it possible that a restaurant of this cuisine wouldn’t have a staple like tea?!? Otherwise, its good teppanyaki (though I prefer way more vegetables) my scallops were huge and cooked with a nice sear. My husband and sons got steak and said it was very good as well. Thank you for the enjoyable evening!More infoNakama Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar - South SidePrice: Moderate• Japanese• Downtown•4.1
