After over half a century and with 21 branches in Japan, TOMI SUSHI has brought its fine Japanese cuisine to Singapore with TOMI SUSHI Singapore Katong. The restaurant’s focus is on Niigata and its ingredients. That means Koshihikari rice and loads of excellent sake. But of course, the sushi and sashimi takes centre stage. Come for lunch and enjoy a great value set menu or go a la carte. The restaurant has many dining areas and you can choose to sit at the bar, in a booth, at a table or hire a private party room. Whatever the occasion, TOMI SUSHI Singapore Katong has the perfect table and excellent Japanese food for it.

Tomi Sushi Millenia was the first Singapore outlet for the restaurant founded in 1954 in Japan. It has since moved premises but the concept remains the same - the freshest ingredients and finest cuisine from the Niigata region in Japan. In fact, fresh fish arrives from the Niigata fish market around three times per week. You can choose whether to sit at the counter, in a booth, at a table or hire a private room. Food wise, you’ll find sushi, bento boxes, sashimi and much more. A lunch menu offers fantastic value for those looking for something quick yet filling. It fills up quick, so booking a table is recommended.

Sushi Jiro at Park Royal - Marina Bay offers a Japanese fine dining experience in Singapore of both artistic and gourmet quality. Founded over two decades ago by Nakano Jiro-San, this Marina Bay restaurant has long impressed diners with sushi that respects traditional preparation methods. A meal here will be one to remember, with handpicked fresh seafood flown from Japan four times a week. It’s now led by Kenji Nakagawa, a talented chef who pays great attention to detail and specialises in edomae sushi. We recommend opting for the omakase menu, allowing the chefs to select which dishes are best served on the day based on their expertise. À la carte is also available, however, and Singaporeans can order sushi, sashimi, tempura, grilled specialities and more to their preference. With a sophisticated dining room and professional service, Sushi Jiro - Parkroyal @ Marina Bay is a must visit.

Ginza Lion Suntec is a traditional Japanese-style beer hall in Singapore. The name of the game is a very special kind of draft beer that’s quickly poured in a unique Japanese way to ensure a natural fine foam. Alongside Japanese beer there is of course fine Japanese food that’s often grilled and always indulgent. You can enjoy brunch, lunch or dinner at Ginza Lion and some of our favourites at dinner time include the roast Black Angus beef, the Ginza Lion sharing platter and the seafood salad that’s so fresh it’s practically still swimming. You’ll find Ginza Lion Singapore inside Promenade’s Suntec City Mall, right on Temasek Boulevard opposite the Fountain of Wealth. Be sure to make a reservation before you go.

Bugis might not be the obvious place to grab a spot of sushi, but bear with us. Amid the mosques, curry houses and assorted Indian influences that abound between Nicoll Highway and Kallang Road, you can find Fukusen Japanese Restaurant, ensconced in the Hotel Clover on Jin Sultan. Their take on the cuisine of the Land of the Rising Sun is exquisite and indulgent: take on one of their 5, 7 or 8 course options as laid out by cousins and chefs Liow Wei Siong and Liow Wei Kim, packed with Japanese specialities laid out in a Singapore style, such as spinach scallop carpaccio and wagyu tata aburi, grilled beef with egg yolk. Book a table now – they do get busy so we heavily recommend it – and take the MRT out to Nicholl Highway for a superlative meal.

It’s safe to say that Unagiya Ichinoji Suntec City serves some of the best unagi in Singapore. As their name suggests, this City Hall eatery specialises in Japanese freshwater eel dishes. Their craft in this delicious food is best sampled by ordering a signature unagi hitsumabushi, the style traditionally from Nagoya in which the eel is barbecued. Unagiya Ichinoji also serves a range of other irresistible Japanese delicacies like sushi, sashimi, charcoal-grilled seafood and deep-fried karaage. With a few Unagiya Ichinoji restaurants now scattered around Singapore, it’s clear locals love the food and ambience that comes with dining here. The Suntec City branch, located within the shopping centre on Temasek Boulevard, is well-lit, modern and spacious. Yet despite the numerous seats, this place is popular and we highly recommend reserving your table in advance.
