The owners of Étoile Cuisine et Bar, Chef Philippe Verpiand and Monica Bui, have created an inviting, warm European environment where both traditional and seasonal French food are front and center. "We want to dispel the notion that French food is heavy and pretentious," says the team, recently transplanted to Houston from San Diego, where they owned the famed Cavaillon Restaurant. Everything about Étoile Cuisine et Bar, from the inviting outside facade to the intriguing interior design to the high quality service, is meant to convey a feeling of truly being in France. With Chef Philippe's take on a seasonal menu using a French technique, it's a place where fine food lovers come together, not on a special occasion, but to enjoy every day.

    Not our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Perhaps our favorite restaurant in Houston -- high marks on food, service, ambience, etc.

    We had a good time! Only at the beginning, even having a reservation and being the restaurant half empty, the hostess wanted to seat us on the back of the restaurant! I told her that I did not liked the space and told her to be seated on the main restaurant room. Our waiter was very kind and professional and the food was very good, we had escargot, they were great, then two soups that were healthy and warm. For the entrees, the waiter recommended the daily suggestion of the pasta, very strong taste, did not like it. Another of the group had a salad that was very good, and my Confit de Canard was excellent, crispy and tasty. The thin apple tart for dessert was perfect. Will always go back.

    Everything about our expedience at Etoile was fantastic; I think it’s the best French restaurant in town. The food was delicious; escargots perfect, magret de canard excellent; sole meunière fantastic. Didi was our server and is the best.

    We had a delightful lunch as our first visit to Etoile. A shrimp and scallop appetizer was delicious, and escargot were enjoyed by my spouse. He was not wowed by the onion soup, but happily consumed it. I was very pleased with my filet of sole with snow peas, capers, etc. We were too full for dessert, but each enjoyed a cappuccino with very frothy milk. The elegance of the food and service were, however, at odds with the tv at the bar facing the dining room. People have cell phones now, so should be able to distract themselves without the presence of a tv. Thanks for a lovely lunch!
