About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for fine wines
  • Romantic
The intimate dining rooms within The Fearrington House Restaurant welcome guests with exceptional service and a seasonally changing menu. Executive Chef Paul Gagne commitment to exceptional farm-to-fork cuisine is woven throughout the dining experience.

From partnerships with local farms, including Harland's Creek Farm in Pittsboro and Lil Farm in Timberlake, to herbs harvested from gardens on the property, to dishes that celebrate North Carolina’s seasons, The Fearrington House’s mission to provide Relais & Chateaux level cuisine and service to guests has remained constant since opening in 1980.

Our menu is complemented by a beverage program featuring an extensive wine list, a full cocktail bar, and beers celebrating North Carolina breweries.

Some people will disagree with this because it’s all a matter of taste preference. First, I saw that the restaurant offered multi course tasting menus which my party was not interested in. I Googled whether Fearrington offered a la carte menus and a number of sources said yes. Well, they don’t. This is my fault because I should have checked with the restaurant rather than relying on Google. The chef, IMO, is more interested in experimenting and mixing flavors with the use of uncommon ingredients as well as elaborate presentations than with whether the food tastes good. The kitchen is obviously a fan of acid. A white asparagus main course was disastrous. Having tasted white asparagus as they should be in France, tender and sauced with restraint, couldn’t have been more different than the chunks of tough asparagus served here which really needed to be accompanied by an extra sharp steak knife. Beyond the terrible texture what little flavor there might have been was overwhelmed by excessively acidic sauce. A mini baguette (“batard”) was, I suspect, baked with cement rather than flour. I could go on but you get the idea. Adding insult to injury is the cost of the smaller of the two set menu offerings was $625 for 3 diners with tip but without any wine. Overall, taking cost into consideration, probably the most disappointing dining experience in my seven decades of experience. Fearrington Village is charming and worth a visit. Belted cattle and goats on the property add to the ambience.

The food and wine were excellent. We splurged with the higher priced wine pairing, but the choices were delicious. We enjoyed it all.

An absolutely wonderful dinner at Fearrington House for my wifes birthday. The food and service was on point and she felt special. I do wish they were not so committed to Tasting Menu's and Pre fixed Menu's. While a great experience it is really too much food. We would likely visit much more often if able to order traditionally. For a special event, this is the go to place. Enjoy!
