Inspiration for Primo comes from the love for food, ancient spirits, local crafts and rustic cooking. Trying to recreate in a small outdoor space under a beautiful tree, the essence from original Playa del Carmen and bring an authentic Mexican food where everything is cooked with wood fire, underground oven, comales and grill, as has been done traditionally in most Mexican small towns for centuries. Primo means cousin in spanish, as a common slogan in Mexico we say Primo to refer to really close friends, the ones that may be closer than family. Our intention with this name is that guests feel the confort of gathering in a place that will taste and feel like home as we do. We have developed the interior design with locally made tzalam wood furniture, bejuco lamps and a chukum finish for the walls. This was our first time dining at Alux. This was a very unique, special experience. Very attentive, friendly service (Thank you, Erick). Food was delicious. Good drink menu. But the real payoff is the atmosphere. Pull up out front, walk down some steps, and enter into a beautiful underground cave. It's a completely unexpected environment. Perfect for a romantic dinner, celebration, special occasion, or just dinner with friends. Sit in the main dining area, or ask for one of multiple private areas. Be sure to take a walk around to experience the whole cave. It'll be a dinner to remember.

Amazing food! Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. The ambience was so much fun with excellent live music right in the restaurant plus people watching right on the Avenida. We got to see some live dancing and street performers - all of this on a Wednesday night. We will definitely return!
