The LaChona brand was born out of a love for sharing incredible wine with close friends and family. Ask any Argentinian what their favorite pastime is and they will likely say “asado con familia”, or grilling with the family. Slow-cooked lechon, fire-kissed chorizo, and hand-crafted empanadas born of generational influences and traditions are all paired with the perfect Malbec, Cabernet Franc, or Semillon every Sunday. This shared familial experience, this act of “pairing” family and fine dining, defines the essence of LaChona’s food and wine experience.

Don’s Favorite Foods is a prix-fixe restaurant created by husband and wife team Chef Don Salamone and Kate Laurents in partnership with Sommelier Adam Galbraith. Cocktails courtesy of Jeffrey Morgenthaler & "Banjo" Amberg. Our menu changes monthly and highlights dishes Don grew up with as well as those he mastered though working at Michelin-starred restaurants across the country. From Don: You may find gnocchi like my Ma used to make or Italian sausage modeled after my Godfather’s, Oreste “Ernie” Capone. You might find scallops still in their shells, Oregon pork in the style of Braciole, & popovers I learned to make from my mother-in-law, Terry, because she makes those every Christmas morning... beef tartare, sea urchin, caviar, etc too. These things are all my favorites. We hope you’ll find your new favorites here too. *Note- if you are using a gift certificate to book you must email reservations@donsfavoritefoods.com - do not book through OpenTable. Wine program is great! Most people don’t know you can actually buy wine to go from them at 50% off menu prices. Our server was fantastic at explaining dishes being attentive and simply had a great attitude. Our food was paced well and very tasty!

Seriously, one of the best restaurant meals I’ve ever had. We shared apps, small plates, and entrees, (plus a couple desserts) and I can’t tell you what was the best dish, or even the top 2 or 3. All were wonderful. Need a complaint? The wine was so-so and the guys at the next table wore smelly cologne. But the food was imaginative, dynamic and delicious. Star anise in onion soup. A new requirement in my house!

This was our second time at Don's and they exceeded our already high expectations from our previous visit. We were there for the Feast of Seven Fishes menu, got a cocktail to start and did the 1/2 pour wine pairing. They batch their cocktails and it's the best Nigroni I've ever had. The menu was filled with familiar seafood dishes prepared in unique ways. Everything was perfect all around. It's rare to find a place that feels as special as Don's. It's our favorite restaurant in Portland, maybe anywhere.

A beautiful experience in the neighborhood. We have been 2x in the last month. It has been a great spot to meet up with a girlfriend, do the wine tasting flights, share their tasty, perfectly dressed salad and split a few empanadas. Wines are a 10! Empanadas are fun to try all the different options and are perfectly paired with their wine selection. 100% recommend this spot for a date night with a friend!
