Transformed by Interior Designer Karen Gorman to reflect an understated chic and comfortable style that transports you to the Coast of France. This unpretentious dining experience celebrates food and wine in a setting for all the senses yet does not compete with the flavors. Chef Arie, inspired by his Cypriot heritage, formal training at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and his years working under Two Star Michelin Chef Philippe Da Silva in Provence, presents cuisine reflective of this coastal style. Longtime customers can still indulge in his classic dishes such as escargot, striped bass with champagne truffle sauce and his own dry aged steaks. My husband and I dined at Calissa for the first time this past Sunday. The restaurant was nice and warm when we came in from the cold. We were greeted warmly. The restaurant is beautiful and inviting. We ordered from the prix fixe menu. There were many great choices offered and the food was plentiful and excellently prepared. The staff were very attentive. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely come back.

Maitre D' (?) was exceptional. He greeted us promptly, informed us that our reserved table was not ready ( we were early,) and escorted us to the bar for a drink. The mixologist concocted a perfect Olde Fashioned and actually brought it to us in the sitting room in front of the fire. Within 5 minutes we were escorted to our table, again in front of a cozy fire. Music played in the background, a little loud (just a bit) and perhaps an odd mix of tunes for an elegant setting. Since we had our drink order the server took our starter and main requests. Unfortunately, we, unlike every other guest, did not receive a bread basket. We did ask for one after our starters arrived, but it never showed up. Our mains were perfectly cooked. My wife had the steak ( medium rare) and I had the short ribs. My wife had asked that the fried potatoes be changed to mashed but we were told that substitutions were not possible. That was off-putting at these prices. Dessert was chocolate mousse and coffee for the lady and I opted for the double Irish coffee. The mousse arrived without even being noticed as it was placed in the center of the table. A goblet of mousse without a supporting plate, classless. The Irish coffee was outstanding, again thanks to the mixologyist. All in all a pleasant evening. Maybe a little more attention to small details would elevate the experience to the next level.

It was an amazing experience as usual. I have nothing bad to say. The 180 day dry aged steak was phenomenal in every way from the cut to the cook to the amazing sauce and perfectly seared foie gras.
