Family owned and run Mua was one of the first restaurants to open in what was then Auto Row in Oakland, in 2008. After their first 2 restaurants, Pastoral in Berkeley (first opened in 1982 while still students, 37 in the architecture program at Cal and San-Ju painting at SFAI) then later Soizic (Jack London Square, 1996), they wanted to shift gears from heavily curated menus to more comfort-based fare catering more to the eclectic and artistic community in Oakland.     My table loved their dishes but mine was the steak frites which was passable, falling short of preparation and quality. I order it to be medium, but it was cooked to medium well on most of the steak but one side was very rare. I never had such an inconsistent steak like that before. The meat was tough, too. I think I will pass on this dish on my next visit and get the smash burger which looked amazing. The cocktails and deserts were very good, as well.

    The Thanksgiving to-go meal from Mago is an absolute delight. We have made a tradition of buying our Thanksgiving feast here and making our lives easier and more enjoyable. The food is fantastic: the turkey is moist and flavorful, the sides are excellent. What a fantastic experience each and every year.

    Acre is an amazing restaurant. It’s a rare gem where the execution across the board is outstanding. It consistently delivers excellent food in a great atmosphere with top notch service. I’ve been for a casual night with friends to an anniversary dinner and it was perfect for both- a great time with fantastic food!
