Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. The Saloon is a Philadelphia neighborhood bar and restaurant with a national reputation. And the parking is FREE!

It was bustling at 9:30 pm but felt cozy and charming given a fairly substantial space. Service at the bar was excellent..Txakoli rose paired well with all the dishes Oysters were well balanced with the white sauce(usually smothered on chicken -crab claws with chives were well paired - swordfish belly was succulent but could use a little punch ( shaved ginger or horseradish?) - seared mackerel was nice but maybe a little smoke or calamansi? - the crispy hashbrown with uni/crab- PERFECT! - toast with lobster was decadently tasty but the escargot got a little lost..a sprinkle of seasoned salt? Overall a unique and wonderful menu which we cannot wait to eat the rest of the dishes😋

I don't know where to start! An amazing experience from the door to the floor. I just want more! We were sat in the hanging wicker chairs because a table wasn't available and just sitting was fun! Van was our server and his attitude and service was tailored for an elevated diving experience. For starters we had the tuna tostadas which were so so good. We ordered the Korean fried chicken with an added side of rice and shrimp pad thai with extra shrimp! Everything was delicious, even the cocktails!

Had a very nice anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. Rob was our server and did a wonderful job, super personable and approachable. Cute restaurant with a local Philadelphia artist producing a lot of the Italian location pieces. Ravioli is some of the best I’ve had in the city of Philadelphia, will definitely be back.

Lots of people eat here just for the experience…. And rightly so! It is quirky and fun but we have eaten here a number of times with many different people and the food is always really good… just keep in mind that fresh tomatoes in the winter aren’t great. Wished I had ordered the beet salad rather than the Victor salad.
