Entering the Saloon, a family owned restaurant since it opened in 1967 is a bit like stepping into Philadelphia's past. Dark oak paneling, shiny brass and authentic local antiques create a warm congenial and casual atmosphere. The choice of two comfortable dining rooms each with its own vintage bars make dining and conversation a relaxed and enjoyable experience. Both bars feature a delicious and moderately priced food menu. The menu is Italian with seafood specials such as grilled octopus and dover sole. Saloon steaks and veal chops are legendary. Many prefer a plate of fried long hot peppers to compliment the steaks. All desserts and gelatos are made on the premises daily. Stephen Starr’s Buddakan is a spectacular restaurant featuring exotic flavors of modern Asian cuisine with creativity and drama. Bon Appetit notes, "The mostly white space is striking, with a lit-from-within communal table in the middle of the room, a waterfall & a ten-foot, candle-bedecked Buddha. The religious icon watches over hip customers indulging in pan-Asian cuisine that far surpasses the fare usually found at hot spots like this." Newsweek reports, "Design also serves as a signifier for cuisine. You walk into Buddakan, one of the hottest new restaurants in Philadelphia, past a shimmering waterfall & Japanese river stones & you say to yourself, 'ginger-miso everything' even before you see the magnificent 10-foot Buddha dominating the dining room." Named one of “America's Top 50 Restaurants" by Travel & Leisure and 'Top Restaurant for Fun' by Gourmet, Buddakan has become one of the country's most talked about restaurants.

The goud is always great here. The charcuterie board was amazing. Lots of items and good portions. The potato bravas are so good! The garlic shrimp came out bubbling hot and so tasty. The croquettes were delicious as was the crab stuffed peppers. The French toast and eggs Benedict entrees were both delicious.

Charming re-creation of an English Pub. English Pub food has gotten much better than it once was, and The Dandelion's food was excellent. From the Dandelion salad to the Root vegetable soup to the Rabbit Pie, all excellent. Our server (I regret I've forgotten her name) was perfect - friendly, efficient, professional. Only negative (for us) was the noise level - we ate upstairs during the lunch rush, and it was busy and noisy with energetic conversations with several tables of 6 or so surrounding us, which of course has pros and cons. But still highly recommended. We did not inquire if a quieter table was available - I think it may have been.

Good food and good value for a pre-theater dinner. Waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. General commentary for most wait staff these days and a pet peeve of mine- like many others says “are we” when asking “we diners” a question. Not sure who instructed wait staff to say “we” instead of “you” but it’s incorrect. They are not at table with “us.” Endeavoring to Include themselves in the diner’s experience is overly familiar, incorrect and at times condescending. Nonetheless, They work hard. Tip well!

Can't remember a better experience, the five stars we gave across the board here are no joke. My date (first date for us) sat for as long as we wanted. Each staff person was very nice. Our waitress, first initial J, took care of us like my beautiful Italian mom would have. Apps, entrees and dessert were in the top 5% ever, and not overpriced.
