Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work. Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region. In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

When you first walk into The Abbey, the atmosphere surrounds you - very eclectic architecture. There are multiple rooms to dine in and each have their own interesting features. The smell of great coffee and food draws you in. Try the fish and chips - great flavor and wonderful house tartar sauce. The trout entree served with mushroom risotto is also prepared very well. Great selection of signature drinks and delicious coffees and teas. Table service was friendly and prompt.
