The Merchant is a big space that served for more than a century as a leather store. We've brought in high-top tables near the windows ... a 40-foot bar on one side of the room … and more formal dining spots on the opposite side. We have a private dining room in back, and another private dining room downstairs. For our menu, we make almost all of our fare from scratch. Executive chef Ignacio Lopez previously worked at both Beat Hotel in Cambridge and Tuscan Kitchen in Burlington. Chef Lopez cures and smokes all the meat in house. Our burger is top-notch, as are other dishes like house-made Gnochhi, Organic Chicken Milanaise and Steak Frites. The Merchant serves salads, sandwiches ($15-$21), and more for the lunch rush. And for dinner, we are a full-service brasserie (with most entrees ranging from $25-$30). The bar has 30+ rotating beers on tap, many of them locally brewed, plus a full selection of craft cocktails to serve our patrons, including the after-work crowd.

Forcella is bringing old-world Italian food to the North End of Boston.Nino Trotta — who owns Forcella alongside his girlfriend, general manager and co-owner Shannon MacGowan, and his brother, wine director Christian Trotta — say that the cozy, candlelit vibe of the restaurant sets Forcella apart in a sea of massive North End restaurants.“It’s tiny, 30 seats,” he said. “It’s perfect for a date.”The kitchen team has designed a menu that includes dishes from all over Italy, with a slight lean toward Naples, where the Trotta family is from.     We had a team diner of 11 people and 2 were running late. I was impressed by how kind, welcoming and helpful Noel was, despite the hassle I am certain this cause the poor kitchen folks. Despite our odd ordering cadence, every plate was perfection. The food here is always inventive, with exciting flavor combinations... but the plating is dazzling. Every course is an event, and I sit in an emotional crisis... of eating the fragrant and mouthwatering presentation... while not wanting to ruin such a perfect plate! The Fresca Lime Ricky (mocktail) was delicious. Who needs alcohol when such flavorful alternatives are available? Must try... Dee's Artichoke Cakes and the Thousand-Layer Crispy Potato Pave. (It haunts my dreams). For your main... this place does short-rib right so well. I had a special, but every dinner was devoured with enthusiasm. This was my 5th visit, and I have another planned in January. Add this to your list as a total GEM!

    This was a great experience from first minute to last - great hospitality around excellent food! We were early, seated quickly and with preferences accounted for. We had scoped six dishes in advance and opted out of one when a waygu Big Mac was offered - a most try! Server knew the menu, understood her role to guide discovery and make sure we had a great meal - 10/10 recommend! Had scallops which were amazing, different than other preparations, and truly stood out. Brussels were his favorite, and were flavorful with a maple item underneath that made it work! Risotto, alcapurrias, and mussels with lobster (only ok) rounded it out with donut dessert. Really really solid and different. Chef Chris came by to say hello - you should too, truly worthy of reputation and ranking!

    Even though we were 30 minutes late due to Boston traffic they held our table!! Excellent service and food. The steak frites was the best I ever had!! Can’t wait to go again.
