Best Restaurants with a Fireplace in Thornhill

Wonderful evening at Auberge du Pommier. We went for a special occasion, my parents were in town, and they took great care of us. Detailed service, food was good, the ambiance and the vibe super cozy.

Knowledgeable, friendly, hospitable service. Aiming for perfection. My wife loved the Kale and Brussels salad. Her filet mignon was slightly overdone; our waiter immediately took it back and replaced it with a perfectly prepared one. My Greek salad was different from the usual "Greek salad" with plenty of juicy tomatoes and a good serving of delicious Feta cheese. My rib eye steak was prepared to perfection. excellent piece of tender and tasty meat. side vegetables were perfect, crisp and deep colours. Loved the little Roquito peppers; they added nice red colours and taste. Most enjoyable dinner date with my wife. One issue: if you select % tip, their bank machine applies it to the HST portion as well. Not nice.

This was a lovely way to spend Family day. Very relaxing, staff was pleasant, food was very good, special requests were all accommodated. My only beef is the tip that is automatically added, which I don't agree with.

Today was wintery and cold with a blowing wind. A day to be inside. A day for lunch at the Amsterdam. As always, the staff at the front door were welcoming and efficient, directing us to a table for two beside the fireplace. Bonus! Samantha (Sam) was our server today. She was friendly and chatty and seemed pleased to see us. We ordered “our usual”, as regulars to the Amsterdam (perhaps we are boring) and without much delay we were enjoying our fish and chips (for her) and the Tai chicken curry (for me), washed down with Diet Coke and an Amsterdam Blonde. The food was hot and nicely presented, particularly the curry, resting on a palm leaf in a custom earthenware (?) dark bowl. The beer, even on a cold day, was great. Although there are giant screen TVs in one section of the dining area showing (today) live tennis, the sounds and images were not intrusive. Ditto the musical ambiance. Although I would prefer NO music in a restaurant, the Amsterdam’s choice was reasonable acceptable and allowed for an audible conversation (I often wonder if the “music” in restaurants, or the grocery store, is targeting the customers or the staff). No desert today. Stuffed. But there was a little room for a cappuccino before paying the bill. Goodbyes from Sam who provided great service and who maintained a pleasant chatty presence throughout today’s encounter. We will be back. Jack H Toronto

I visited La Grotta on Main for the first time for Valentine’s Day and had an amazing experience!The service was impeccable, the food and portions were perfect, in particular the Chilean sea bass and grilled calamari were excellent. Sebastian took great care of us and made sure we both had a memorable evening. Hands down the best Italian restaurant in Markham, and the old school Italian decor and ambience will leave you longing for a trip to Italy.
