The Grain House Restaurant is located on the picturesque 10-acre estate of the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Grain House structure was originally built as a barn in the 1760’s and was used to store grain for American Revolutionary soldiers. The barn was later moved to its current location and opened as a restaurant in the 1930’s. We had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was perfect for a cold Winter’s night. The food was exceptional. We had the dry aged cowboy steak and petite filet. Both were cooked to perfection. The calamari was tender and the truffle Parmesan fries were very good. We sat at the high top tables on the second floor and found the area to be very inviting. Our reservation was relatively early 5:30 pm so I imagine it would be a bit more crusted later on. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Rails.

Unfortunately our food came out cold 2x (after sending it back to the kitchen). Was forced to then order something we didn’t necessarily want but needed to have something for dinner. The manager was nice and took the entrées off the bill, but would expect a higher level of service at a restaurant like this.

Beautiful historic restaurant ! We loved the fireplaces and dining room areas. There was also a great bar area with tables and a fireplace. Dinner was fresh and tasty. Service was prompt and good. We would dine here again if in the area.
