Best Restaurants for Local Ingredients in Oaxaca

I had the pleasure of dining at this charming spot, and I have to say, it was an absolute treat for the senses. The 6-course tasting menu was perfectly balanced, offering a delightful mix of fresh ingredients with bold, traditional Oaxacan flavors. Each dish was expertly crafted, with incredible attention to detail – nothing was too heavy, and everything was served at the perfect temperature. The flavors were vibrant and beautifully executed, especially the roasted eggplant and the dish featuring zucchini flowers, which really stood out for their depth and uniqueness. The desserts were also a highlight, with just the right amount of sweetness – nothing cloying, just a perfect balance. The ambiance of the place is truly special – surrounded by chickens, roosters, and their chicks, creating a very authentic and homely feel (in tribute to the restaurant’s name). What made it even more perfect for us? It’s pet-friendly, so we didn’t have to leave our furry friend behind. Definitely a must-visit – highly recommend you go without hesitation!

We think our food and evening at Origen was not only the best experience in Oaxaca but perhaps anywhere. It is is cultured, so above most aesthetically. The food was simple but it reminded me of the early years of Che Panisse in Berkeley, CA....

Cobarde is worth visiting! Lovely location and ambiance. Great staff. We visited on Christmas Eve and there was a fixed menu. Very original and tasty menu. The ravioli was a tad undercooked. Most notably, they were playing dreadful American Christmas carols when we got there. We requested a music change and the manager very graciously complied. The trendier music was great and made the whole experience much better for us (and probably for everyone else!)
