Grounded in its home setting, the original 1890s saloon, and dining hall, The Kitchen is a precursor to the classic steakhouse. It brings a farm-to-fire approach that honors time, place, and purpose, including the farms and ranches of the Western Slope. Built around a generous wood hearth that came to be renowned in the West, the restaurant uses nature as a guide and creates space for guests to slow down, connect, and make memories.Remarkable tableside preparations, vintage cocktails, and friendly small-town hospitality allow guests to focus on going home with an authentic charming story, safely removed from the ordinary.

One of my top 2 restaurants in Telluride for quality and variety of food. Rack of lamb done to perfection (and one needs little else more when that’s nailed), delicious and imaginative fish preparation, delicious raw fish (tataki and rolls), creative lobster/shrimp sausage with caper alioli, delicious ceviche, and tomato and saffron soup out of this world. The server was such a flirty tease that we (4) were not bothered by the delays in bringing out the dishes. The atmosphere was elegant and civil, as always. Always look forward to coming back.

This was our first time in the separate downstairs area for the omakase tasting dinner. It was totally outstanding. We had previously dined in the general dining area downstairs, with wonderful food and service. But if you don't mind the higher fixed price for the omakase tasting menu dinner, go for it -- it is worth it. You won't find a better omakase experience anywhere unless maybe in Japan.

Food was very good, nice to have the choice of elk or bison on the menu. Service was very good, attentive. One negative was asked for my dish without the potatoes and substituted with a vege and they said they would not do that but that I could buy a side vege for $12 or whatever it was--a little annoying. And the ambiance was very nice, it is in a nice old building with high ceilings. It is not a value play at all. Not used to seeing the $60+ entrees, really used to seeing more in the $30s and $40s, especially on some that were just a cut of meat where you had to order your $10 to $15 side dishes separately. So the value conscious should really not go here, but I doubt that is their target market.

During our off-season winter visit, the restaurant offered a limited menu with outstanding food. The offerings were distinctive an the flavors of the items were phenomenal. An apple salad with beats and goat cheese - I could eat it every day! The bone-in pork chop grilled to perfection.
