Bar Vendetta distinguishes itself in a space that had previously been a fairly iconic restaurant, The Black Hoof, with a beautiful (and imposing) Douglas fir ‘glass canopy’ and a completely different, 70s colour scheme, modelled (very loosely) on Jen's teen basement bedroom in Scarborough. Nothing says 70s like brown, orange and cream! We didn’t want it to scream ‘Italian restaurant’ because frankly it’s only Italian-ish, using the philosophies of Italian cooking with locally available ingredients and a strong devotion to seasonality. Our pastas all made in house, by long-time chef, Annalisa Latavo and our front of house team is simply a dream! The sort of secret treehouse-feeling back patio is hugely popular in the summer, but we think of it as the perfect restaurant for a colder evening, cozy for tucking into a beautiful plate of pasta, with one of your favourite songs playing while you have a very nice Italian red.

Osteria Giulia sprung to life in our imaginations as a tribute to Italian traditions of the past. We wanted to create one simple, beautiful thing. Somewhere outside of your busy life, outside of your surroundings, outside of time. An environment, an experience, an entire evening. Osteria Giulia is intimate, warm and familiar. We’ve revelled in her every detail. We’ve established a rarified menu focusing on Northern Italian cuisine and delicate coastal, Mediterranean flavour. Giulia is a new imagining of what an Italian restaurant can be. It always was the place of our dreams, the reason for our collaboration, and the culmination of—and conduit for—our collective passion. I had a wonderful dinner date at Bar Vendetta last night. The service was excellent—the staff was incredibly kind and attentive throughout the evening. Our food arrived at the perfect pace, allowing us to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed. Although we didn’t get to try the cocktails, the pasta and small plates were outstanding, with just the right balance of flavors and seasoning. The ambiance was fantastic—from the beautifully decorated walls to the cozy seating, every detail added to the experience. The only thing that could be improved is the music selection, which didn’t quite enhance the atmosphere as much as it could. A more curated playlist could elevate the mood even further. Overall, it's a great spot for a date or a night out, and I’d definitely come back!

We were searching for a fun and interesting tasting menu, and Ficoa did not disappoint! We have experienced many in Toronto, and this is the first one where the chef's love and passion truly shone through. Each dish was presented by chef Gerry himself, or a member of his knowledgeable staff, who explained not only the components of each plate, but why each was meaningful to him. This translates into the atmosphere of the restaurant itself, which is warm, comfortable and inviting. Thank you chef Gerry and team for bringing us into your home.

The value for what we had was outstanding - sashimi dishes were very fresh, very nice quality, and the rolls were delicious. The karaage was great as well. We ordered around 8:45pm and several dishes were sold out: all of the wagyu dishes, the spring rolls, and the hapa pockets; the sushi bites sold out after our first order, so when we asked for a second we weren’t able to get more. Sapporo on tap was great. Half of our party doesn’t drink and the mocktails were delicious. It was extremely loud inside - I think if you want a quieter meal, try to get an earlier seating, toward the back of the restaurant. Our server was lovely, but service was a bit slow at times. Over all, a good experience for a fun relaxed atmosphere.
