Casual waterfront dining right on the docks of the Patchogue River, The Oar serves up fresh and delicious steaks and seafood. Chefs prepare specialties like coconut shrimp, 36 oz sizzling prime porterhouse, lobster quesadillas and fresh Bluepoint oysters and little clams which are delivered daily. Two dining rooms are decorated in traditional nautical style. The front wall in made up of French doors that open onto the water, providing dockside open air seating in warm months and picturesque views of the marina year-round. The rear dining room is elegant with raise panel mahogany, white table clothes and blue and white nautical stripe wall paper. The menu has lots of choices and the wine list is small but has a good selection of reasonably priced wines. The chef is amazing. Willing to do things not on the menu, I asked for calamari with arrabiata sauce and he killed it! So good that I asked him to make one of his dishes with that sauce instead of a garlic broth!! And he did that TOO!! Not usual for a chef to change things up on a weekend night. My wife’s chicken francese was superb! There deserts are not homemade, but the tiramisu was delicious. All the dishes were presented very nicely. DEFINITELY worth returning!!

The view, as promised, is beautiful. Food is excellent. I had the calamari appetizer, which was just the right level of spicy, and the shrimp Cobb salad, with a fabulous chocolate martini for dessert. Our waitress was affable and efficient.
