Le Coq is James Beard Best Chef finalist Tara Monsod’s new wave French steakhouse. Inspired by the modern Parisian culinary landscape, chef Tara reinvents classic dishes through her signature approach, blending cross-cultural references and ingredients for a distinctly SoCal expression of French cuisine. Bright touches and hyper-seasonal products ground the menu with San Diego style, while nods to chef Tara’s Southeast Asian background are interwoven throughout. Located in downtown La Jolla in a 1930’s historic building with exposed brick walls, steel trusses, and a barrel-vaulted ceiling. Into this storied shell is inserted a posh 1970’s diner club.

We chose Cesarina because they make their own pasta in-house as well as their sauces and everything else. Wow - what a great meal! We waited at the bar overlooking the pasta being made so when we were seated, we decided to start with a ravioli and separately, carpaccio. Both were outstanding with some type of truffle oil over the tender carpaccio making it fantastic! We had the Norma sauce (with eggplant) with pasta and the meaty Mafalde al Sugo Napoletano with ribs and sausage and it was made perfectly! We were too stuffed for dessert and boxed up the leftover but will definitely return.

We had a delicious meal and delightful time! We enjoyed the tagliatelle with butternut squash, rib eye, a filet, and the pasta with clam sauce. Only one appetizer which was the Caesar salad and was very good. Served a little differently with fresh greens instead of romaine and the dressing was excellent. Our server Toni was superb! She is professional, knowledgeable and a delightful person! The manager was also very nice and helpful. Thanks to all the staff for making our evening special!

The Marine Room is a culinary gem! From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with an unparalleled view of the ocean that sets the perfect ambiance for an unforgettable dining experience. The seafood here is absolutely top-notch—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I highly recommend trying their Glazed Swordfish. It’s clear that the chefs take immense pride in their craft. The service was equally impeccable. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and made excellent recommendations, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just treating yourself to an elevated meal, The Marine Room is the place to go. It’s not just a dinner; it’s an experience. I can’t wait to return!
