It all began with a love story and a dream. Linwood, a chef, and Ellen, a reporter, met 36 years ago in a restaurant of course! They married and began to envision that someday they would open a restaurant of their own. The restaurant’s first business plan was written at their dining room table on an electric typewriter. In 1988 Linwoods opened its doors, and it has been a labour of love for more than thirty years. Linwoods’ cuisine consists of the freshest ingredients, and inventive preparation. Our service is warm and attentive. We have developed a reputation for consistency an attention to detail. These qualities are key to our catering business as well.     I am vegan and the server had no problem making sure my meal was dairy-free and meat-free. She even told me there was fish broth in the Miso Soup, which I didn’t order due to her honesty. I think the restaurant should include the fish broth on the list of ingredients on the menu. Every ingredient should be listed when it comes to meat, diary or any spice with heat (cayenne, chili, etc.). Good food, good service. I have never had a bad meal here.

    Ruth Chris is hands down my favorite restaurant for variety, ambiance, service and availability (they stay open late). The ribeye and stuffed chicken are my favorite entrees. I always order the lobster mac no matter what else i eat. The seafood tower is absolutely amazing too. The bbq shrimp were a bit disappointing this time, usually very savory. Last night way too salty. Also disappointed they still dont take apple pay, google wallet... like cmon guys. I had to leave and go to an ATM to get cash and pay for my meal. They need a sign posted as patrons walk through the door so this doesn't happen to anyone else. Still my favorite restaurant!!!

    We really enjoyed our experience at Linwoods. The food and the service were outstanding. We went for Valentine’s Day and the atmosphere was fantastic!! The restaurant was crowded but they handled it real well and made our night very special 😊

    They have had since 1856 to perfect the art of service. They have not wasted a bit of that time. We had a server and he was fantastic. With that, the entire brigade worked as a fantastic machine and supported the goal of quick and perfect service for the guest. I have never had apps arrive so quickly at a restaurant before. I even threw another order in while ordering our main course and it was on the table 2 minutes later. The quality of the food is top notch as well. The roast beef sandwich had a bit of bite on it that was unexpected but definitely not unappreciated. As I was dinning with my 13 year old son tonight, I also appreciated the non alcoholic options on the drink menu. It was great to have a delicious option that wasn't a soda. Overall, this is a MUST for any visit to DC.
