Best Restaurants for Special Occasions in Riverdale

We had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was perfect for a cold Winter’s night. The food was exceptional. We had the dry aged cowboy steak and petite filet. Both were cooked to perfection. The calamari was tender and the truffle Parmesan fries were very good. We sat at the high top tables on the second floor and found the area to be very inviting. Our reservation was relatively early 5:30 pm so I imagine it would be a bit more crusted later on. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Rails.

I am a native New Yorker and had never been here, but I had walked by it a number of times. It was truly a pleasure. I was with my mother who is in a wheelchair and they could not have been more gracious or accommodating. It is so difficult to find a handicapped accessible restaurant--one that doesn't have stairs or other obstacles--so I was thrilled to find that they had a ramp and clear access. Not only that, the staff was so nice and so welcoming and did everything to ensure that we were comfortable. They did not at all seem put out that we needed assistance. We were there for brunch and the food was excellent. I had eggs benedict with smoked salmon and my mother had a special steak sandwich. Both delicious. The good service continued throughout the meal. It was such an incredible experience I was so grateful.

Our reservation was accurate and necessary;large dining area very busy. Table a little small but serviceable. Seating is comfortable but tables very close together. We conversed reasonably well through the competing voices of the surrounding tables. Service is excellent. Server listens carefully, never rushed, answered questions perfectly. Drinks arrived quickly and perfect; excellent cappuccino and the best Bloody Mary. Bourbon list did not include Knob Creek (bummer). The French Dip sandwich is wonderful. My wife enjoyed her veggie burger. We dined across from Lincoln Center. Perfect.

Becco is an Italian restaurant near the theatre district. While narrow at the entrance, it extends room after room to the back. Service was prompt and sensitive to theatre show times. Tables are very close together, but since everyone is there to eat and enjoy, it only presents a problem to the claustrophobic. Appetizers were generous and very well presented. The special - lasagne Bolognese - was well put together, flavorful and rich. Even the bread and olives, put out early were top notch. The wine list is broad, but the pours for individual servings were generous. Unless you plan to finish a whole bottle, one glass should be ample. We didn't get desserts, but the dessert menu was tantalizing. Next time. Service was first rate. If you plan on going, I would advise reservations in advance, which we did. Wait times when we got there were over an hour, and on an early Thursday evening. This is good classic Italian cooking, well-presented and customer focused.
