Thank you for visiting Kenichi Izakaya Carbondale. An Izakaya is a type of informal Japanese pub. At sake breweries during the late 18th century, people in Japan began using sake kegs as stools, and snacks were served. This small plate menu was designed to encourage sharing amongst friends and family. Food is prepared in multiple kitchens and arrives as it is ready to ensure freshness.     The Spanish Octopus and Iberian Duroc Pork were simply divine. The Whipped Feta was a novelty but at the end of the day, it was just a lump of feta cheese and can be missed. The Sticky Toffee Pudding cake was delicious but a little too sweet for my taste. All of the food were presented beautifully. As for the service, it was prompt and attentive. However, I didn't like the fact that the restaurant added a 3% surcharge to the bill for "staff pay". That seemed cheesy. I would have preferred that 3% to be included in the menu prices instead of a separate line item. Overall, I would still recommend Sweet Basil for special occasions.
