General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. We had an amazing time! Everything was excellent, we were a large group for a birthday and we ordered a lot of food. Every dish was great, nothing I wouldn’t order again. Our server, May, was great and knew exactly when to check on us, made good recommendations and obviously knew what she was talking about. Can’t recommend enough :) we could see the kitchen from where we sat and it was nice to see that everyone put a lot of passion and interest into what they were doing.

The service and ambiance was great. Notable dishes were the challah and fluke and fennel. The fries were perfectly crispy and the broccoli was very flavourful. However, the ribeye was average, it lacked flavour but cooked properly yo medium rare.
