Blacklock is a modern take of the Great British chophouse nestled in the corner of a Grade II listed textiles warehouse. We take the best meat in the country from the award-winning farmer and butcher Philip Warren in Cornwall. We cook chops simply over our charcoal grill with a little help from vintage Blacklock irons and serve it all up alongside cocktails from the trolley and wine on tap in our subterranean chop mecca. On Sundays we serve a Roast almost as good as Mum's. We have limited spaces for Walk-ins, so we encourage booking in advance to avoid disappointment during busy times. To find out more, do sign up to our newsletter and we look forward to warmly welcoming you soon.

Lunch for 2 on the seasonal £40 sharing menu in the Saturday before Christmas. I’d heard and read so many good things about Higher Ground but not managed to get here until now, all of which were entirely justified. The interior (my bag) is cool, stylish and well laid out, tables not too close to each other. A really friendly welcome when we walked in, genuine and warm. Superlative staff, informed, enthusiastic without being over attentive, and knowledgable. Wonderful food, a smashing selection of dishes from the full menu. Pea fritters, British crab, incrediblly tasty cured meat, golden beets, warm freshly baked bread & whipped butter, succulent leeks - all excellent. Then a sharing main of Dexter beef on a delicate but hearty mushroom spelt porridge and a bowl of mash homegrown on the HG farm in Cheshire. I’ll be attempting to recreate smoked butter at home but doubtless will fail to make it this delicious. For the quality of food, attention to detail, quality of service, this was £40 per head very well spent. Wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

We are a family of four, including two boisterous children. The gentleman who served us absolutely “got the memo” that I needed to discreetly pick the most suitable table to ensure we didn’t disrupt other diners. He was excellent and understanding the boys’ need to be away from other customers and brought us kids menus. The menus seem “slim pickings” but we felt like we had a good selection for our picky kids and us being pescatarian. The cocktail menu was great and we enjoy a few of those. The kids had good sized portions or burger and chicken “nugget” and thick cut chips. We had a selection of veggie sharing plates. All of the food was so incredibly tasty and we felt really full despite the portion sizes looking quite small on arrival. We’d definitely like to return to have more of the menu. We’d just have appreciated a faster service because the kids were getting restless waiting for their puddings. Other than that, this is a very easy place to recommend to others!

Fantastic. Took a seat at the bar for a solo night meal as was in town for work. The Christmas burger was sublime and wine, beer and dessert wine! Service was excellent - friendly and chatty when I wanted and when I was cradling my beer and reading my book, they left me alone. Chips were amazing.

A great lunch for 6 of us at a capacious table near the kitchen area (as requested). The menu is extensive, plus there was a festive option. Service was prompt and courteous. One of our go-to places when meeting in Manchester. Sometimes we meet there just for cocktails or out door coffee in the summer
