If you take away anything from this review, it is that you should not order the prime rib or George Washington's favorite (the duck entree). The only good things we had here were the ham biscuits and water. I ordered the prime rib rare, which was completely overcooked and tough (I have never been to golden corral but the prime rib there is probably better). My wife ordered the duck entree and took one bite and spit it out. The duck was overcooked as well and was very rubbery. We had high hopes for the historic restaurant but were severely let down. In the end, I would avoid coming here altogether because the ambiance was weird as well. All of the guests were put into the same tiny room, and we could all hear each other's conversations. We had to whisper the entire time. We will never be coming back and will tell everyone we know to avoid it at all costs. I wouldn't go back even if it were free. Update: After reading more reviews it seems that this has been going on for quite a while. Food is horrible and service is lackluster with the waiters not having any knowledge of the menu. Feels more like a tourist trap than anything. Old Town Alexandria has so much to offer please avoid this overpriced dump. If the owner is reading this you should just make this place a historic bar. You would increase your income and would not have to worry about making these terrible dishes anymore.

Attentive staff and excellent food in a historic restaurant. Loved the extensive use of wood and wood plank floors.

The service and quality of the food is exceptional in a relaxed colonial atmosphere that George Washington enjoyed.

Love the history, the atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly. Service was a little slow, I don’t know if they were shortstaffed. Almost all of the food was super delicious. With the exception of my chicken entrée, which was dry to the point it was almost Inedible. As I’m someone who doesn’t really send food back to the kitchen, I simply made a statement to the waiter at the end of the meal. I would’ve expected more of a reaction from him. Outside of that everything was really delicious and we were very pleased for the meal. If you order the chicken cut into it as soon as it gets on your table and send it back if it’s not your liking

In a word or rather two words: this is not good. From the hostess seating us to the waiter, the food, and the decor—everything should be better in a place that has historical appeal. There is something to be said for 18th century accuracy but here it is lackluster and dismal. The waiter was quick but dour. The food was just edible and one entree was unacceptable. Billed as chicken pot pie, it came as a dull stew-like concoction in a bowl with a biscuit on the side. There was no “pie”. This place needs saving—in every way.

Great ambiance in historic tavern with good food and service. Options are somewhat limited and expensive, but worth it to try.

Stopped by to have lunch in a historical setting. It was truly nice ambience. The food was delicious and prepared well with good ingredients, though menu not necessarily anything ground breaking. Friendly wait staff.
