The upstairs Restaurant at German Gymnasium takes diners on a journey around the lesser known aspects of German cuisine, with a sophisticated seasonal menu that is only available on our first floor.

The Restaurant menu has been thoughtfully designed by our Executive Chef, Alexander Thiel, drawing on his experiences as a restauranteur in Berlin to deliver a unique experience for London’s foodies.

We went for Valentine’s Day and got the set menu. The space was beautiful and they made the effort to put roses on the table. The food was good quality, we just wish there was more of it! Would probably just order off the a la carte menu next time.

A really gorgeous interior combined with a lovely atmosphere and delicious food. The service was also impeccable; there was a little blip in the timing between starter and main (instant) but they dealt with it efficiently and the rest of the meal was wonderful. Special mention to our lovely Italian waiter and the maitre d who checked on us several times after the timing mishap. Very friendly service - we will certainly be back! Thank you x

The service was excellent. The food was great, apart from the dessert (cheesecake), which was average. We were however disappointed (especially for a Saturday night) that there were a large number of items not available on the menu including some flagship mains which we were hoping to try and was the purpose of the visit. We had to significantly compromise on selections but still enjoyed our visit. Worth a visit, but don't assume the full menu will be available.

The food is always amazing. We got the Weiner schnitzel,the pork nackle, a sausage , beef tartare and a couple of sides. Everything was delicious and really value for money. The best part of our visit was the amazing Harris who helped us a lot to choose the best options and he took great care of us while we were there ! Definitely recommend it !

Top choice. A real 1865 gymnasium with Olympic history, now turned into a fantastic Restaurant & Bar. We opted for the restaurant on the upper level to have dinner. The food was exellent, the prices very reasonable and the service perfect. I must mention Harris, the restaurant manager who is the epitome of hospitality! From the moment we walked in he made us fell as if we were the VIP guestes of the day. Thank you Harris.

Booked for a special occasion 2 birthdays we all travelled far for the night and a few of us ordered the beef and we were told only one left as run out? This was 7pm in a Saturday night so not really acceptable and no mention when we sat down to table otherwise we would have ate else where. Then we were told the one was not not available anyway but a long story short we had o order a dish we didn’t want and I didn’t even like mine. The manger was trying to joke saying the other dishes were better than the beef it wasn’t good anyway. Then he gave my friend a glass of champagne for her birthday and didn’t give me one as it was mine to then he got her a cake and not me so he totally ignored we said it was 2 birthdays when we sat down It was just an experience that I would not with to ever have again and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone

We prioritise freshness and do our best to calculate, however even despite our best efforts, some days some dishes are just more popular than the others and do run out. I am sorry you could not find anything else you liked on the menu. Also please accept our most sincere apologies for not bringing a birthday plate and a glass of champagne to you, this was a miscommunication. We enjoyed our experience at the balcony restaurant in The German Gymnasium. Food and drinks were good but had the feeling that there could have been more staff available as the waitress seemed to be run off her feet. Otherwise a very pleasant experience.
