For decades, this was my favorite Bay Area restaurant. I dined here many times. I had birthdays, my wedding dinner, and anniversaries at Greens. Dishes were special, with unusual ingredients, complex flavors, and inventive preparations. The fully meat-free menu never felt like it was missing anything; each dish was satisfying in itself. I hadn’t visited for six years, and dined here again tonight. The service is still excellent. The outside shed is a good option, but it was chilly despite two heaters. But my dinner was nothing like the 50+ I enjoyed here from 1988 to 2019. The Seventy Five cocktail was great, yes. But the spiced pecans were under-seasoned and undercooked, soft instead of crisp. The olives tasted like they came from a grocery store. The beet salad had no personality, just a harsh one-note cider vinegar dressing that hid any other flavor. The bland brown bread had an unpleasant spread, its flavors muddled and sour. The leek and cauliflower croquettes tasted like neither; they were small, greasy, bland, and firm. The “chocolate” bread pudding had no discernible chocolate, just a few brown bits in a blandly sweet, plain pale bread pudding sitting on a drizzled bland sauce, a supposed caramel with no richness. Why call it a chocolate bread pudding if it doesn’t taste like chocolate? This was unrecognizable as a Greens meal. In the past, going to Greens was an event—from bread to salads to apps to entrees to dessert, each dish was fresh, inventive, flavorful, and made with top ingredients. Nothing was EVER bland. Textures were great. Flavors were rich and nuanced. What’s happened? This meal was so very sad.

Such a classic restaurant and fun for an outing. But I felt the quality, tastes, deliciousness of the food was meh. Bland taste— even the presentation of one appetizer was laughable. The other dishes were good but truly nothing special like many years ago special. There so many great restaurants- this one has fallen a bit in my experience.

Yes, the ambience is beautiful, but the food was awful. We ordered six dishes and didn’t like any one of them. We brought people from out of town and we’re just so disappointed. It’s beautiful, but that’s the best thing about it.

Amazing food and top-notch service! As someone with celiac disease, I truly appreciate how knowledgeable and accommodating the staff are when it comes to dietary restrictions. They clearly understand the importance of avoiding cross-contamination, which made me feel completely safe and taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious—flavorful, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared. On top of that, the atmosphere is fantastic, with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge that make the whole experience even more memorable. Highly recommend!

First, let me say I typically love Greens. This may have been an off day, but the service was pretty poor and the food was a bit boring. We had the first course come out so fast (before drinks), had to ask for things multiple times, and the food was simply bland and required lots of extra seasoning. I’m sure I’ll go back, but may just be a bit and maybe not a Friday lunch service.

We enjoyed our experience with some relatively minor negatives. We ordered the endive appetizer to share and it turned out to be a single piece. A second order came quickly and it was delicious. Bussers were too eager to clear utensils and plates. Not everyone liked the cauliflower and leek pancakes, as they seemed undercooked. Some of the bread puddings were not as lucious as the menu description.
