   Having worked in the restaurant industry, I don’t take writing a poor review lightly. Food was not good. Service was not good. I ordered the rib eye steak and it was not very good quality. It seemed like the same thin, lower quality steak, I would buy at my local grocery store. We also ordered the poached mussels which were flavorless; hard to do. You are charged for all side dishes and our Brussels sprouts were served at the very end of our meal. Waited 35 min for a cocktail. Lots of excuses by the server. Seems like this was once a very good restaurant (which is why we booked) with reasonable prices and excellent service. It is none of those today. It was sold to a new owner and prices jacked up, 3% credit card fee added, charges for sides and steak sauces extra, service poor. The website hasn’t even been updated and we heard it’s been under new ownership for several months now. All of these things could be forgiven if the food was great or even pretty good but it is not. We overheard issues at neighboring tables as well so it wasn’t just us. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Dine elsewhere.

   We are very disappointed with what has happened to Kenichi Pacific. First we noticed a 3% credit card surcharge. Then a very big change in menu with our favorite items now missing. My rib eye steak is now a la cart with everything else a spendy add on. They even charged me $5 for the dipping sauce! Our favorite sushi items are missing and the new ones are smaller and not as good. This was our favorite restaurant, but not anymore. Whoever is managing it now only cares about the bottom line.

   We always eat here and love it, we rave about this place to other people, it’s definitely one of our top picks. This time we went in and no we did not have a reservation because every time we call to make one they tell us if it’s only for two no need reservations. Apparently tonight we did and was told by the hostess they were full all night, that we could go sit at the bar. So we went to the bar side and took a long while before we got assistance and told that he’s just the bar back and our waiter would be over soon, which she wasn’t so he ended up making our drinks. It’s very loud on that side. I went on open table and was able to make a reservation for us for the dining area which was weird because the hostess told us they were booked the whole night, she was also not very welcoming. Went back to the hostess stand and told her we had a reservation and she sat us right away! What! She just told us locals that she was booked the whole night! They were short on menus so they took the menu when were were not done, took forever to bring us our drinks and food, this time my lobster was like rubber which it usually is not and cut into pieces when it’s usually a whole tail. Overall this time the food wasn’t as spectacular as it normally is and seems they have new staff who has difficulty working under pressure which for the price we paid made the experience underwhelming. We normally take our family of 5 there a handful of times a year and never experienced such low vibrations of aloha. Don’t know if we will go again anytime soon. Hopefully there staff learns to work under pressure to make every ones experience a better one for the price we pay to eat there.

   Appetizers were being held so that all food would arrive at the same time. A big mistake. Upon our request, and after waiting for appetizers to be brought, we requested and they were brought to our table. I don't understand why oysters would not be brought soon, and should not be held when the dinner plates are delivered. My wife's salad was also held. Jacob offered good service; but it seems that he was laboring under policy that, in my opinion, is not a good one. Salads and appetizers come should be delivered to the table before the main course. I am local, having lived here in Kealakekua since 2005 and have visited Kenichi on many occasions. It did appear that the kitchen staff might have been slim.

   We were there 20 minutes before getting water. We left after no waitress after 30 minutes. Used to love this place. Will never go back

   We've eaten here over the years and it's always good, The staff is courteous, and honestly it's close to our house and the movie theater!

   Visiting from Las Vegas for Christmas holiday. Sushi was ok overall. We ordered 4 different rolls - Inside out (I think that was the name of it?), Vegas roll, Tempura Shrimp and Hawaiian Roll. The first 2 were great, the last 2 were meh. Service was very slow. Took FOREVER to get the Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed overall.

    Dinner on Christmas day was no excepción. The Beef Wellington was cooked to perfection, as everything else. Jacob always provides us with exceptional service. Even on Christmas the entire staff was friendly, and happy to make our dining experience wonderful. A special thank you to Jorden and Chef Chris, the owners.
