Kokkari (pronounced “Ko-Kar-ee”) is a small fishing village located on the islands of Samos in the Aegean Sea, whose name is derived from the small onions that were once produced in the nearby fields. Its fertile soil and Mediterranean climate translated into an abundance of fresh produce as well as treasured seafood and game. Legend tells that Kokkari is the site where Orion, a mighty hunter and a young man of gigantic stature and great beauty, fell in love with the daughter of the king of Chios. For the love of her, Orion forged the island for wild game and seafood to prepare elaborate banquets in celebration of their love. Today, we hope you will enjoy your own celebration as you dine at Kokkari Estiatorio on food “fit for the Gods” prepared with an Aegean palate and the style of innovative California fare.

One of us would give 5+ stars, the other would give about 2. Both thought the service was excellent. One loved the food (lamb chops) one actually called it bad. One thought pricy but within reason, the other thought way overpriced. Huge place packed on a Sunday night so it appears that lots of people agree with the more positive of us. The one writing the review recommends trying it.

The restaurant was very nice. The ambience was great and the food was spectacular. We ordered the grilled seabass and it was fantastic. The service was exceptional. We had reservations and we were seated right away. I recommend this place. Awesome

Best meal of the holiday. In fact - best meal we’ve had for a long time. The lamb chops were to die for!

The service was the best that I have ever experienced. From our knowledgeable server, Gilberto, to the Maitre d’ to the bus boys, service was flawless, and actually beyond. The food was exquisite. I put four stars because the special of the day that my wife ordered was not to her liking; tough and lacking in seasoning or flavor. HOWEVER: the staff immediately replaced it with lamb chops that were cooked to perfection. The other appetizer special (seared pork belly) was perfect, as were all the other courses we had, and the wine with them. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, and cannot express how good our service from Gilberto was. You need him for every shift he will take!

Clearly the best Greek food in San Francisco and the East Bay. A bit pricey, or we would be there more often. I could (and sometimes do) make a meal of appetizers. The spanakopita is the best I've ever tasted, and the lamb riblets are sinfully good.
