Amid a proliferation of places all serving the same "bistro" menus, La Chaumiere stands out for consistently producing credible examples of class French cuisine bourgeois. Dishes not to be found on any other DC restaurant's menus (quenelles, rognons de veau, venison) well executed. Which is why it was crowded on a Monday night. Decent wine list -- mostly above $100. Good service. Can come back to this place time after time to try new dishes beyond the favorites.

My wife and I have been regulars at La Chaumiere for decades with a shift mostly to lunches since our retirements about 10 years ago. So dinner last night with friends after a concert was a needed reminder of the special pleasure we had not realized we've been missing. The atmosphere during dinner on a cold night at La Chaumiere is really something special. The romantic (gas) fireplace in the center of the main dining area is one key ingredient but the understated authenticity of the aged, provincial setting, the expertise, courtesy and familiarity of the staff, tables filled with other locals and long-time regulars, and of course the dependable excellence of each classic dish with just the right wine. We love our full, leisurely lunches at La Chaumiere. But full, leisurely dinners are back on our radar!

My first time at this cozy French restaurant in Georgetown. The food was amazing, the waiters were knowledgeable and speedy, and the ambiance was delightful. Perfect evening.

We had a delightful lunch, very nice ambience, courteous reception and very attentive waiter. We did not feel rushed. The restaurant had the nice gesture to offer us a glass of champagne to toast for our anniversary. Needless to say, the food and the wine were top.

We enjoyed the house pate and my husband liked the lamb he ordered. However, the Dover sole was a huge disappointment. The fish was thin, a bit mushy, and not flavorful. Definitely not worth the $55 price! The creme brulee was okay but not nearly as good as you would expect from such a nice restaurant. Our waiter never asked us if we liked the wine or the food.

Nice to have at least one restaurant in DC that preserves old world elegance and efficiency.
