Das Restaurant Altes Eishaus in Gießen ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail im Stil der vorletzten Jahrhundertwende eingerichtet. Die einzigartige Lage unserer Gastronomie wird durch die unmittelbar am Hause vorbeifließende Lahn im Restaurantführer unterstrichen. Dem Beobachter entgeht die spannende Geschichte und persönliche Atmosphäre in Gießens Restaurant Altes Eishaus nicht. Im Jahre 1904 errichtete eine ortsansässige Brauerei den „Eiskeller“ mit der Absicht, an der direkt am Haus entlangfließenden Lahn im Winter bei strengem Frost Eis zu schneiden. In einem aufwändigen Prozess wurde das Eis angelandet und an der Lahnseite über einen Schrägaufzug mit Elektromotor direkt über das Dach auf den Boden des heutigen Restaurants in Gießen befördert. Dort wartete auf die „Eisrücker“ ein sehr gefährlicher Job. Sie mussten das Eis im Eiskeller aufschichten und verdichten. So konnte das Eis fast drei Jahre mit geringen täglichen Wasserverlusten gelagert werden.
