Raul Molina arrived in Houston from his hometown of Laredo, Mexico in the late 1920s. Like many of his contemporaries, he was searching for a better life and found work in a local restaurant as a busboy, dishwasher and counterman. In 1941, Raul and wife Mary opened their first Mexican restaurant, the Old Monterrey, located in Houston at 1919 W. Gray. At the time there were only four or five Mexican restaurants in the City of Houston. Today, Raul Molina is considered a pioneer in Tex-Mex cuisine and is best known as the patriarch of a food family. Now, more than seven decades later, Molina’s Cantina is recognized as the oldest and one of the best locally owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurants in Houston. The Molina family has played a significant role in shaping Houston’s culinary landscape and continues to enjoy the privilege of growing with Houston. Whether you are a third-generation customer or a first-time visitor, we welcome you to the Molina familia.

We had dinner off the Fixed Price Christmas Eve menu. The three of us would not have selected some of the items, but most were delicious and well prepared, especially the main courses. If we ordered off the menu like any other night, the food would be rated excellent. Our only minor complaints would be the restaurant is a little too dark and a bit too loud. However with a cell phone light you can easily read the menu and the final bill.

We had a 5:30 reservation but arrived early, no problem, we were seated immediately. Artasha, who waited on us, was amazing. We asked about the special and she asked if we wanted to.sample the special sauce. After tasting it we decided to order the special which was Redfish Ponchartrain and it was very good. We mentioned that it was our anniversary and she took our photo and gave us complimentary cheesecake. Highly recommend Greek Brothers in El Campo!

Went to dinner here last night with my boyfriend. First time we’ve both eaten here. The food was delicious!! We started with the shrimp scampi. Best scampi we’ve ever eaten. For dinner I had the 20 layer lasagna!! Huge plate of it. It was so good. Brought the rest home for leftovers. My boyfriend had clam linguini. He loved it. I highly recommend eating here!!

Great food. Doris was the waitress and she kept our drinks filled and remembered anything else that we needed. Josue was the Manager and he was checking on all tables. He greeted my husband and I with a sincere smile.

Excellent fresh Red Snapper. Large, tender chicken fried steak. Good wine selection. Attentive , friendly servers. Good coffee. Not impressed with the bread pudding….just a thick solid square of bread ( cake) with bananas foster sauce. I’ll try the Key Lime pie, next time. Also…interesting location…in a field…but it works! Dress code is more casual, than dressy. Will definitely be back.
