Michael Bong didn’t come to Japanese cooking along the obvious route – he’s Korean, for one – but now that he has, he’s certainly making the most of it. Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar on Little Malop Street in the centre of Geelong is a tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo, with a focus on japanese tapas and warm dishes mates that come off it. That results in top-notch pork belly, beef and chicken thighs for the meat-eaters and salmon, prawns and scallops for the fish fans as well as beancurd and vegetables for the vegetarians. Aside from the grill, there is also an astounding array of sushi and sashimi dishes, octopus pancake balls, salt and pepper squid, alongside dessert options and a long cocktail menu that befits all the best, boozy backstreet izakaya joints in Japan.     Truly outstanding in every aspect! Every dish was packed full of flavour and absolutely delicious. We tried so many things. The wait staff were super attentive and made our time really enjoyable. Probably the best service we’ve ever had! The cocktails are next level amazing. The venue itself is gorgeous. Genuinely nothing I can’t fault. I cant wait to go back!!

    We ordered the iska Fiesta Meal! And it was really yummy! The Pusit (squid) was very tender! Skewers excellent and chicken inasal very Juicy, serving on the meal was very Generous! The deep Fried pork and Lumpia very yummy and Crispy! Dipping sauce! Compliments the Food! Overall! Very yummy! And excellent! Chef and staffs are very accommodating! Will visit them for sure again when we go to Geelong! (From Queensland)

    food was amazing, servings are big table was too small for our group of four, which made relaxing during the meal difficult. Also they were very understaffed, hence we had to wait around 25-30 mins just to receive our drinks. staff were lovely though and were trying their best
