The French Quarter is a relaxed neighbourhood restaurant & wine Bar in a community of unique and quirky businesses in Newcastle city Centre. We are a friendly and approachable team of people, with a passion for the good things in life. Born from nostalgia for a traditional style of commerce and a desire to challenge perceptions that French dining is formal or fussy, we work with independent suppliers to offer a regularly changing wine list & tapas style menu. We have created a casual and sociable environment where customers are invited to experience our food, try our wines, shop from our deli and share our love of all things French!

Join us at the best steak restaurant in Newcastle, offering a taste of Argentinian cuisine, alongside premium cocktails, in a spectacular setting. The engine room behind Britain’s Industrial Revolution, Newcastle is the birthplace of the Golden Age of coal, iron and steam. Home to the locomotive, ship building, electric lighting, turbine power and once the largest glass-producing centre in the world, Newcastle laid the foundation for the UK’s prosperity, forging intercontinental relationships and helping to affirm global strength.Gaucho is now the custodian of a painstakingly restored Grade II-listed building on Pilgrim Street, blending a sophisticated elegance with industrial elements, reflecting the city’s legacy for impeccable craftsmanship. With a sweeping centerpiece bar that’s perfect for early evening drinks and a wide-plan restaurant with an open kitchen, it will become the restaurant to see and be seen in this great city.

Tucked away close to Newcastle's thousand-year-old castle, the French Quarter is a gem that provides a memorable dining experience. It offers a harmonious blend of exceptional food, warm service, and an inviting ambience. The menu is thoughtfully curated, with French-inspired dishes that highlight a perfect marriage of flavours and freshness. On my visit, I began with an exquisite Rillettes de Porc with some off-menu toasted bread. I followed this with an indulgent Bœuf Bourguignon accompanied by a tangy Gratin Dauphinois and fresh Haricot Vert. The staff were an absolute delight—attentive, friendly, and passionate about their work. They were happy to make recommendations, explaining food combinations with detail and enthusiasm. Every interaction felt personal, adding an extra layer of warmth to my visit. The restaurant offered subtle touches of a French bistro, a cosy yet sophisticated charm. It's perfect for both intimate dinners and lively group get-togethers. It's not budget dining, but the quality of the food, impeccable service, and overall experience justify the cost. Portions are generous, and each dish feels crafted with care. Whether you're a fan of French cuisine or just looking for a memorable culinary experience, the French Quarter delivers on all fronts. I will certainly return.

We were given a lunch voucher for a present and we really enjoyed our visit. All three courses that we chose were delicious and the meal came with 2 glasses of fizzy. The restaurant has an interesting history and had a pleasant atmosphere.

Booked last minute as 10 of us and was pleasantly surprised! Friendly service and good food. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because one of the main meals was late coming out. Would recommend 😊
