After a two-year closure, Original Joe's, San Francisco’s quintessential Italian-American dining destination, revitalized iconic Daly City institution Joe’s of Westlake, and reintroduced it into the community as Original Joe’s Westlake. An anchor of Daly City from 1956 to 2014, Original Joe’s Westlake underwent an extensive two-year renovation, complete with a front-to-back interior remodel, including the kitchen and all dining spaces, and an exterior and landscaping overhaul. Following the Original Joe’s tradition, Westlake continues to prepare unpretentious, old-school Italian-American fare in an open kitchen for all to see. The menu is carefully crafted to reflect a past-meets-present hybrid of what Joe’s of Westlake used to be and what Original Joe’s Westlake is today.

Server as impeccable as always. Sorry I forget his name. Salad was fresh and delicious. Our shared paella with a couple fried eggs on top hit the spot. Chef’s kiss!

Westlake Joe's is a rarity these days in that it is restaurant with good food, good ambience and good waiters (they always checked on water and coffee). They are also to be applauded for having a menu with great variety that guarantees everyone in your party will find a meal perfect for them. Menu prices are comparable to most restaurants these days (which have become increasingly higher) but the difference with Westlake Joes and it is a real difference, is that their portion sizes remain generous and their food always tastes good. Our party ordered a Chinese Chicken Salad which was very large for $22.00, a pastrami sandwich with a side of Caesar salad (which was the size of a normal salad in most restaurants for $21.95 and a hamburger with a generous amount of fries. The desserts were also very good and generous (an ice cream sundae with 5 large scoops of ice cream) versus one scoop of ice cream in most restaurants and a large bowl of butterscotch pudding which was rich and delicious. The restaurant is generally always busy so my final note is to make a reservation! Parking can be challenging even though they have two large lots, but generally you can find a place. It is a wonderful local restaurant!

Foreign Cinema is by far one of the best restaurants in San Francisco and throughout the years they have maintained the same quality level. The food is beautifully presented and the innovative flavors are a pleasant surprise to the palate. They have something for everyone. The crew is very well experienced and their recommendations for wine pairing is always right on. Don’t be surprised if they bring complementary dishes. We have been dining at Foreign Cinema since they open and we will continue visiting them.
