Set in the picturesque village of Abbots Ripton with access to beautiful walks on the local estate, The Elm has everything you want from your perfect countryside pub; A glorious garden, a roaring fire, comfortable rooms, delicious food and a wide selection of drinks. The Grade II-listed building was built, as an open hall, in the late 15th Century to offer hospitality to the drovers bringing cattle down from Scotland (along the Bullock Road) to the market at St.Ives. It was later altered with the insertion of a brick chimney in the early 17th century. The Fellowes family, that own and run the pub, came to the area around the same time the pub got its chimney...

Quite simply, this is one of the best restaurants in the world. The food is incredible. Every course was absolutely delicious, the ambience of the dining room is unfussy and welcoming. The staff are all friendly and efficient. And Brett Graham, the chef, takes his time to come to every table, explaining the dishes and chatting to his customers all through the night. Incredible. Up there with Core and The Fat Duck as my favourite restaurants in London, and one of the best dining experiences of my life. Stunning. I’m already planning a return.

We always book a table here during our annual holiday to Rutland and would highly recommend a visit. The food is exceptional and is a very reasonable price, given the food quality and standard of service. When you arrive you are greeted by the smell of the home-made bread that is baked every day and everyone gets this to begin, along with some flavoured dipping oil and speciality butter. Today's butter was sea salt and seaweed. Scott, Carol and their team make you feel at ease and provide efficient and unobtrusive service, whilst maintaining a casual feel. We had booked for our wedding anniversary and we found a handwritten card waiting on out table, a nice personal touch. We will definitely return the next time we are in the area.

On arriving was met with a lovely cheerful welcome, was seated straight away. Lovely ambience, helpful and cheerful waiting staff. And the food was amazing. So massive well done to all. From owner, to bar staff to waiting staff to chef etc . Will defo be back and often as poss. One thing would be a plus more choice in ales. Amazeballs.
