In 1962, Johnny Harlowe made the jump from the silver screen to chef and owner of Dear John’s. Convinced by his pal Frank Sinatra, Johnny opened the iconic spot just a ways down from Sony Studios on Culver Blvd. It became the watering-hole for the Hollywood elite with Sinatra often in the corner playing the piano against the dark brick walls once lined with portraits of famous John’s.     Maple Block is the best - really great Texas-style barbecue (i.e., beef, not pork -- Texas, Oklahoma and the Santa Maria region of CA concentrate on beef barbecue, whereas the rest of the south concentrates on port). They have nightly specials (try to rotisserie chicken) and theme nights - e.g. "Steak and Martini Night" which is what we went to on Friday. The staff is really friendly and the food is delicious!! Full bar, and very creative cocktails.

    We had a wonderful dinner (business meeting). Fortunately, we were able to get a table in the back as the noise in the front room was loud (ok LOUD). The food was delicious, the service was superb and the ambiance was nice. The restaurant was jammed on a Wednesday night. That in and of itself is a positive review.

    Dear John's was nice enough to fulfill my request for a corner table. That was the start of this great dining experience. The food was oustanding, as was the service and cocktails. I had the Ossobuco (special for the night) and it was absolutely delicious!! This place is such a hidden gem that makes you feel like your in NYC.
