We are a country Gastropub owned by farmers. Our farm supplies the beef, lamb and pork and we source other ingredients from local producers where we can. Our small seasonal menu changes regularly reflecting what is available in our area. We pride ourselves on being very much a country pub, offering freshly prepared seasonal food and a warm welcome. Believed to date back to the 17th century the Horse & Groom was originally used to house local farmer workers, with the increase in horse drawn traffic using the old Hastings Road the property was utilised to offer weary travellers a place to rest and stable their horse ready for their onward journey. It then, and has to this date, become known as the Horse and Groom .​ Free of tie, the pub now offers the traditional country pub fair, set in the glorious surroundings of Rushlake Green, with its picturesque village properties encircling the village green, centre of the villages attraction and host to many winter and summer events. The pub with it’s large private gardens offers a friendly and secure environment for families to enjoy beautiful views over the adjoining rolling Sussex countryside.

    Our afternoon tea experience at The Ivy at Tunbridge Wells was exemplary. We went for our anniversary and the food, service and ambiance were amazing. We were even given a complementary ‘Happy Anniversary’ desert, which was very unexpected and a lovely gesture. Thank you to everyone who made our experience so memorable.

    We had a lovely evening at Essence and felt welcomed and at ease from the moment we arrived. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed the food and the fact that it was a decent portion size. We shared two starters and two mains with rice. We found the overall price pretty reasonable and will be back to sample more on the menu! Essence is definitely a great asset to Tunbridge Wells!! Thank you for a fun evening!!

    We enjoyed a very nice roast dinner this afternoon, in fact my wife and I agreed it was the best we had had as we like to go for a roast at least one Sunday in the month. Unfortunately we didn’t do it justice as we had a prawn cocktail starter which was also very nice but filling. I’m sure we will return in the not too distant future.
