Calgary is home to some of the top restaurants in Canada. There are several traditional restaurants that have been part of its food scene for decades. These restaurants have a faithful following and serve recipes that have stood the test of time. Known as Stampede City or Cowtown, this city has its share of steakhouses and burger joints. Some are traditional while others have a more modern take on the world of beef. In Calgary, chic restaurants including sushi bars, cocktail lounges and stylish cafes are popping up all around Canada's Rocky Mountains. Many of the newer restaurants offer special menus for vegetarians or gluten-free diners. The farm-to-table dining experience which focuses on the use of local produce in the recipes is another popular trend with Calgary's newest dining establishments. There are also hip clubs and lounges in Calgary where diners can let their hair down. Stop by one of these to grab a drink, a late-night snack or a sweet dessert after going to a game or a movie. Some of these clubs often host live bands and musical performers on the weekend. Follow them on social media to keep up with their event schedule. The setting is stellar as you drive into Fish Creek Park and there ahead on the right is the restaurant. It is a restored 1901 ranch house and has been open as a restaurant for ten years. The ambience is charming and takes you back to a forgotten past. The menu is up-to-date as is the wine and beverage list. The staff were prompt, friendly and informative. Our party variously chose beetroot salad, a soup of the day, lamb shank, cod, and pork roast. All were excellent, variously buttery (cod), melt in your mouth (lamb) as was the pork dish. All the desserts were excellent. We'll be sure to return to this gem on the south side of Calgary.

First time visit. Lovely atmosphere. Service was excellent from the hosts to service to management. Lots of steak on the menu but also lots of other great options too. Our entire party really enjoyed their meals. Server was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely be going back.

Some of its modern design features include geometric paintings, brass mirrors and LED signs for added flair. Purlieu's menu includes appetizers like calamari and prawns as well as entrees with burgers, steak frites and cod served with side dishes like mushroom salad and garlic potatoes. We had an outstanding meal at Purlieu once again! The appetizer Tempura Shrimp was perfectly cooked. The fish of the day was excellent, cooked just right so it was still lovely, moist and flaky. We finished our dinner with a lovely Butterscotch Creme Brulee. The service was outstanding, thank you Yves!

We had an outstanding meal at Purlieu once again! The appetizer Tempura Shrimp was perfectly cooked. The fish of the day was excellent, cooked just right so it was still lovely, moist and flaky. Vendome is in a historical building in the Sunnyside neighborhood. It is within walking distance of the Bow River and Peace Bridge. Here, diners can eat indoors or outside on its very large deck. This modern cafe serves French, Spanish and Italian inspired meals such as avocado toast, rolled French omelette, cucumber gazpacho, steamed mussels, and spaghetti carbonara. Diners can enjoy eating at Vendome for any meal. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a special brunch served on the weekends. Vendome has been serving the community since the 1930s.
