They’re partly here for tableside theatre from an attention-grabbing duck press that makes Otto’s iconic canard à la presse possible. The hefty contraption extracts juices from the bird which is served three ways: liver atop morels and sweetbreads, slivers of duck breast in that infamous pressed sauce with pommes soufflées, and confit duck leg with foie gras and black truffle (due to avian flu, pigeon à la presse is on offer instead). We had the early set menu (three courses for £37) which was the same price as a standard main course. It was excellent; lots of choice and generous portions. Would recommend the trout starter and belly pork main. Extras still add up, mind. End bill was twice that when we added sides, an aperitif and a carafe of wine. So fair value in the end rather than 'bargain'.

Bistro Union never disappoints, but today’s lunch was my best experience yet! Dining with my wife, a friend, and one of my sons, we were once again blown away by the quality and variety of the menu. I ate here 12 years ago. It was so memorable I had to go back during my first time visiting London since then. And it was even better. Than the memory. That is rare. I have never had venison as tender as wagyu beef before. I feel connected with the ‘āina, as we say in Hawaiian, through this food. A meal at Harwood Arms is akin to a ramble in the countryside, and a bit of a history lesson to boot. Chestnut soup with a surprise of chestnut mushrooms at the bottom—it made me chuckle!

Can I just say I never write reviews but honestly this experience HAS TO BE SPOKEN ABOUT! Firstly I’d like to thank Pio & Muhammad for their OUTSTANDING service, both the guys made us feel so incredibly special, were super attentive and HAPPY! It was so nice to see. Both of them need a raise because they genuinely made this experience ten times better. We went mid week and it was a lot quieter which we loved and were offered a booth by the wonderful lady at the beginning and even at the end she offered us both a lollipop as we declined the mulled wine / hot chocolate because we were so full of tea 😂 The sandwiches were incredible, I was really surprised at the vegan options being so delicious - that mushroom sarni was INSANE. The atmosphere was great. We were very happy that it wasn’t too busy and loud. It was mums birthday and she got a special cake and Pio sang happy birthday with me so I wasn’t alone which was adorable! He was a very gentle soul. We had the best time and thoroughly recommend anyone to go! It is quite expensive but honestly the service made up for that entirely - you pay for what you get. I will be coming back!
