There are great shops throughout Amsterdam, but the two main drags in this area—Haarlemmerstraat and Haarlemmerdijk—are well-known for the eclectic nature and overall quality of their boutiques and restaurants. Longtime staples sling classic diner-type breakfasts each day, while inventive Dutch eateries raise the bar with special tasting menus and creative combinations of flavors. Some of the city’s best coffee shops are in the neighborhood, as well as those other types of coffee shops. Whatever your buzz, just remember to save room for some local, fresh ice cream—the long lines cue you into their popularity, even in winter.
