The sweet little city of Jefferson, Georgia offers a laidback introduction to southern charm. Included in that introduction is a great sampling of traditional southern cooking. Things aren't always what they seem here. Some of the best comfort food in town is served out of rustic, repurposed structures. At an old barn, the shrimp and grits are on point. And don't leave without trying the banana pudding! On the other side of town, pit barbecue is served on picnic tables. Try the ribs before they (and the tables) are all gone. You can even eat homemade soup and a delectable tres leche cake out of an old jail.
