Having recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary on Union Street, Perry’s remains an enormously popular San Francisco institution. Perry Butler initially opened Perry’s in 1969, bringing to Union Street the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood saloons of New York’s Upper East Side. The blue and white checked tablecloths, hexagonal tiled floor, wood-paneled memorabilia clad walls, and menu of American classics produced an atmosphere that has held true today-- comfortable, inviting and cool.

Testament to its timeless appeal, Perry’s is known today, as much as ever, for its classic American food, its warm personable service and a fun, bustling bar. Perry"s traditional yet innovative menu includes a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, pastas, steaks and grilled fresh fish.

We love Perrys and go to all of their locations frequently and have for years. This dinner was an exception to the usual excellent rule. Someone was let loose in the kitchen with a very porous salt shaker. Everything was way oversalted. I would prefer to salt my own filet. I know that their famous onion strings (one of their biggest draws) are naturally a bit salty, but this time they were salted to the breaking point. Thankfully, the server kept the water coming. We will, of course, be back to Perrys and can only hope that the salt guy in the kitchen is off shift or has gotten it out of his system.

I finally introduced myself to Emily, our server. She's helped me during lunch there several times and is so friendly and good at helping. It made lunch there - my unofficial office for meetings - even more fun.

This was a San Diego couple’s first visit to Perry’s, and we were very happy with our decision. Service was great, and the food choices we made we would do again in a heartbeat! My wife had a great burger and I a Reuben, and both were first class: quite tasty, large amounts, and served with home-prepared awesome potato chips. This followed a couple ample pours of wine, reasonably priced, large amount of crisp onion strings and a tasty wedge salad. Thanks, Perry’s, you are on our “must do” list next year.

First visit to Perry’s. We walked up after the Fleet Week air show. Superior staff- cheerful, professional. Our waitress had a winning personality. Table at front gave us a view of the lively bar scene and the streetscape. Fun to see so many groups with toddlers and small children! Food was good; nice salmon fillet, everything else was what you’d expect.

Consistently great service. Two of our orders came out cold. The one we requested be warmed was quickly brought back warm. Otherwise lovely evening. I especially appreciate the outdoor seating!
