Welcome to Island. We have proudly been the neighborhood favorite in Carnegie Hill since we opened our doors in 1986. Friedmans was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. Everything about this restaurant is fantastic. The food is delicious, the cocktails are great, the service was on point (friendly, helpful, present but not overbearing), and the value of the family meal option is incredible, especially for NYC. Highly recommend! (get the whole fish and the khao soi!)

Excellent food. Service was perfect. The fig based Negroni I hear is very good. We had a fantastic wine at the table. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meal, so there’s plenty of options to choose from. A good local restaurant, and one worth taking the trip to from uptown or downtown. Save room for dessert, there was a whipped pistachio cheesecake that I really enjoyed.
